Alexia's "re-awakening" in Code Veronica was one of the most greatest scenes in all of Resident Evil. So what dumb ass decided it was a great idea to replace ALL emotion in that scene with a 'Alexia is all evil now!' scene.
Same people that screwed up everything great about Wesker in RE5 I'm sure.
Truly I wasn't really arguing in favor of DSC. I was just showing an open viewpoint, pointing out that the Chronicles interpretations allow the audience to look at the different complexities of the original versions by creating their own interpretation.
I wish that you don't take that I'm arguing against you, because I do adore the Tribute/AMV you've done here (hence why I got here in the first place). It's just that I wanted to point out why the Chronicles versions weren't such a bad thing.
And if you even re-read my first comment I was merely pointing why I didn't mind the DSC Alexia: "Honestly I actually quite liked this version a lot and feel like it added another dynamic to Alexia's character."
There, I said it added "another" dynamic to her overall character. Not the original character, but the overall concept of Alexia. I hope you understand what I mean.
As much as people have been hating on how Alexia was portrayed in DSC, I can't help but think they simply based her personality on her original concept anyway where she actually considered everything expendable unlike the nicer version in Code: Veronica. Honestly I actually quite liked this version a lot and feel like it added another dynamic to Alexia's character.
@DemetedP I seriously doubt that. DSC Alexia was childish, and while yes, she was frozen as a child the whole point of her character is that she was mature beyond her years. At the age of 12, she was basically a young woman. Everything is not so much 'expendable' to her, but more a part of her kingdom. Though it's true she'd despose of anything getting in her way, that wouldn't be her brother. And out of curiosity, where are you getting this 'original concept' idea from?
@TilasTrinety I didn't mean to come off as saying she was "childish" at all, I was merely outlining the dynamics of her personality & that part of her has been touched on before it's just that they magnified it more in DSC as their own interpretation. The original concept was taken from the old scrapped version of the Berceuse song but the creators felt it was too much so they scrapped the idea. It just so happened this time in DSC they felt the need to delve & remake the sibling relationship.
@TilasTrinety Also you forget I didn't even say that DSC Alexia was better, I just said that this aspect of her personality added ANOTHER dynamic to her personality (not BETTER), making Alexia's overall character (both CV and DSC) and interpretation that much more interesting.
@TilasTrinety It's the same with characters like Birkin and how he was portrayed in UC. In RE0 he was more scheming and competent along with Wesker, yet in REUC the creators felt like changing it up a bit so it clearly demonstrates Wesker's dominant personality over Birkin. It just adds a new dimension to the overall complexity of a character.
@DemetedP Firstly, I don't recall ever seeing that Berceuse, even in its full version, ever being the basis for Alexia's character. If you can provide me with some official material, perhaps an interview or something, that says otherwise, I'd be happy to see it. Also, DSC isn't at all canon, none of the chronicles games are, except for the new scearios, meaning the portrayals of the characters are just one offs, and retellings by the main characters. In this case, Leon, who wasn't even there.
@DemetedP Also, a lot of it is probably just completely changing Alexia's character in order to change the events, and be better able to conense everything down. Her character is completely changed from the original concept of the calm, collected Queen who carefully plots everything out, which is really much more accurate for what she is, a child genius. The new Alexia is selfish, childish, and treats everything as a game. As though it means nothing to her, which isn't really right.
@DemetedP Also, I never said that you said DSC Alexia was better. I'm just pointing out the other side to the argument you were making. Personally, I think her original portrayel is more of a correct one, and that's pretty much true considering, as I said, DSC wasn't canon. To me, CV Alexia was far more interesting and had a lot more depth.
@TilasTrinety Exactly, but I was just pointing that there was nothing wrong with the interpretation they've made in DSC. What I was pointing out was through an objective stand point. I think either version is great but of course CV is the "true version" because of course, it's the original canon. I'm merely outlining that these interpretations of the character (the Chronicles non-canon version) simply introduces other dimensions in the characters' personalities for the audience to interpret.
@TilasTrinety Not to mention it also introduces the idea that Alfred's character is that much more tragic. While in CV Alfred shared a great bond with her (almost incest, but moreover dissociative identity disorder), in DSC it emphasizes the Queen & worker ant relationship where the Queen simply views the worker as a worker and nothing more (something that Alfred always glorified in CV). It isn't better than CV, it just introduces new concepts that makes the characters that much more complex.
@DemetedP Alfred's character was just as tragic and complex in CV, if not moreso. He always viewed himself as the soldier, dedicating his life to protecting his Queen, only to finally die in her arms knowing his duty was complete. She even held him and sang to him, and the reason she went after Claire and Steve was to avenge her brother. Alexia viewed the rest of the world as worker ants, but her brother was a soldier to her and the only one worthy of being close to her.
So when alexia awoke to find her brother dead, she felt obliged (in her own delusion) to punish the ants who killed her servant (because that#s what alfred basically was) However as alfred was still alive in DSC once alexia fully awakened, she must have learnt alfred's full extent of 'failings' and gotrid of him accordingly. Given what the T veronica virus is and what it does, you have to be pretty twisted in mind if you were the one who created it.
Good choice for song, also good work on editing clips of each scene, adding more or less when it's neccsary. Personally I like the revisonist version of alexia. her voice makes sense (she was in stasis since 12, so her vocal cords never matured) and maintains demented spoilt attitude of a child. Alexia as a child tortured her dad and never looked kindly to alfred. They just took that part of her up a notch. I like to see it that was alfred's circumstance of death in veronica that softned alexia
I loved Alfred in DC, they made him so much more interesting and really improved his character... until they went all 'omfg letz make hre moar evil!!!1 lol" with Alexia and had her kill Alfred; I mean what the hell, the whole point is that they were brother and sister and he worked towards her rebirth, and - albeit died and she was eventually killed - died like the soldier ant he was supposed to be...now she killed him? uhm... no
Seriously. Alexia and Alfred shared a special bond, and Darkside Chronicles ruined that. Would it have been so hard to recreate his original death? I mean, really?
@JennifereverStudios To be fair, Darkside Chronicles isn't supposed to be accurate. It's Leon retelling what Claire told him isn't it? They probably think Alexia was totally evil. It doesn't mean the events of Veronica Code are discontinuity; just that the characters don't remember Alexia's good points (I mean why would they?). Or am I missing something?

Wow DC totally butt fucked the original. I grew up on Resident Evil, seeing this at the age of 17 is just horrid. Anyone else agree?
