  • a greatest mind....

  • "Childhood´s End" deeply influenced my attitude to life.

  • One of the Greatest Man in History.

  • He invented the modern communication satellite and all he got was a T-shirt.

  • Cheer old boy,to your journey into the great beyond !!!

  • Arthur was a founding member of the British Interplanetary Society, which has been promoting space flight since 1933. If you are interested in joining, more information can be found at the BIS website.

  • Yes....that is a stupid reason to accuse some people...But the most stupid thing is people who did this accusation...prejudices!

  • he got accused of being a paedophile just because he was old and only married once for a very short time and had little to do with women, so for some bizzare reason he was accused of being a child molester..

  • The true scope of Sir Arthur's influence may never be fully appreciated. This video obit briefly mentions his role in the conceptualization of the comsat, but as significant as that is, it is his role in the promotion of the study of Near Earth Objects that may one day give us a chance of fending off a cosmic catastrophy.

His fiction / thought experiments inspired many to realize his sci / tech visions.

RIP Sir Arthur. As u stated in Rama Revealed: "Knowledge is Happiness"

  • Well said. This is a good video, but one that very quickly summarizes a life which cannot be adequately summarized in just one minute and twenty-one seconds.

  • Rest in peace Arthur

  • Wherever he is, may he still ponder the misteries of this and other worlds... Stop reading if you don't like cornyness, but every once in a while, someone passes away and we feel a sadness or even just a frisson (like the heebiejeebies) as if the feeling of loss was a lot closer than it should have been. This guy was a parent for a whole generation... If heaven exists, his portion of it would be a huge library with the answers to all his questions.

  • Celebrating Arthur C Clark by making a reference to heaven seems backwards.

  • Comment removed

  • I loved his program "Arthur C. Clark's Misterious World".

  • I went at least six or seven times to the cinema to see 2001 A Space Odyssy when it first came out in 1968. Also remember reading A Fall of Moondust from my local library about the same time. Also my dad's name was Arthur. Gone but never forgotten. RIP.

  • RIP Arthur!

  • i actually liked the story

and no affence but i didnt no he was that old

  • Him Dead

  • I guess hes sailing through an alternate universe now!

  • Rest In Peace Arthur

  • His visions were so advanced. It's a shame that his thoughts have not materialized faster from science fiction into science fact. RIP. HAL open the pod doors here comes Arthur.

  • Did he abuse you? Or did you see him abusing someone?

  • CONDOLENCESfrom a Sci-fi family and Team.......

We just lost our Dad who was mot only also a writer but loved his Star Trek :-)

Peace, long Life and Happiness to All of you and yours-

  • RIP Clarke...I love your books

  • Respect !!!!! RIP :(

  • :( damn.....

  • Sir Clark was an incredible writer and story teller. When I first read "Chilhood's End" many years ago, it undoubtedly changed my perspective of life and science fiction. His legacy will live on.

  • I sent a sample of my DNA into orbit. The effort nearly killed me.

  • and outerspace

  • did ya see it? pchoo!

  • From the sands of time, to wherever you are now, ride the winds of space my friend, it is yours forever.

  • Happy Easter!

  • A great man !!

    rip.

  • he seemed intellectually sharp even up to his death

  • Rest In Peace, Sir Arthur C. Clarke

  • Although your life's done, your legacy's just begun, and the surf of far seas and stars shall yet sound your songs and celebrate your dreams fulfilled.

  • "Foundations of Paradise" and "Childhoods End" are two must reads for those of you who only know of Clarkes 2001 saga. Wouldn't hurt to read The "Rama" series also. Mr. Clarke, changed my life and I shall miss him forever. They should shoot his whole body into space not just a piece of DNA. Maybe park him in GSO or send him out of the solar system on an ion rocket or a solar sail.

  • 2001, one of the finest movies ever made.

  • Aww, that's sad.

  • He was/is a legendary writer - he will be missed.

  • When will somebody make a mind-blowing film version of "Childhood's End?" Spielberg, you listening?

  • I'd like to see 3001 made into a movie also!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this story is one of Clarks finest and would make a great movie. Spielberg would more likely do the "Rama" books or something more visual like that I think.

  • THere already here

  • Goodbye old man. You changed everything.

  • Hahahaha, what really needs to be said? What does it come down to? Too bad you did not insult him to his face while he was alive.. he might have written your name down, and then - it would not VANISH when you die, as it will. One of you will be remembered, guess which

  • I would have bet that he would live to 100.

But, he lived a long life compared to most other people.

And, I believe his books were the best science fiction ones.

    I read 5 of them, saw 2010 and 2001.

  • ??????????????

  • He had very interesting ideas and a good imagination. But unlike other writers like Philip K. Dick or William Gibson or, even, Edgar Rice Burroughs or H.G. Wells, Clarke was not much of a stylist. Like Tom Clancy, he was a bit of a techno fetishist and a real stiff (like Asimov) when it came to writing dialogue which is probably why a lot of his books haven't made it into film and why "2001: A Space Odyssey" succeeds, so well, because of the lack, thereof.

  • It's always said that he is/was a great sci-fi writer, which he indeed was but that seems to me to lessen his achievements. The fact is: he was a GREAT WRITER and wonderful story teller. He had a way of making complicated subjects easy to understand and his books always had great flow. RIP

  • He was an atheist, so "RIP" doesn't apply. He's simply "gone". :./

  • Nothing wrong with simply being gone. So we were before we were born after all. Back to the natural state of non-existance. Shouldn't hurt a bit ;)

I remember watching Clarke's mysterious world on discovery channel with great interest. Great author too as I discovered later..

  • RIP technically doesn't apply to Christians or Muslims either, since the majority of these are supposedly bound for Hell. Religion is shit, as Clarke understood.

  • 'He was an atheist, so "RIP" doesn't apply. He's simply "gone"'

Not particulary a believer myself, RIP is just a sign of respect. Ok?

  • Arthur C Clark you are a great writer and television presenter. You will be sadly missed by your family and friends. I have videos of your programmes, and I will always treasure them forever. Rest In Peace Arthur you are a great guy and a living legend.

  • How his simple email so effectively changed my life.

  • What a sad loss, he was a great writer and also the person who got me interested in Satellite TV and he will be greatly missed. R.I P

  • One of the greatest sci fi writers of our time; he's got a date with the monolith and HAL................. RIP.

  • May your soul rest in peace!

This world will always miss you!

Thankyou for your contribution to this world...! It'll never be forgotten.....!

  • A visionary. He never got to see 2010...

  • R.I.P Arthur you will be missed.

  • He inspired to Gene Roddenberry the creation of 'Star Trek' and a possitive vision about the future, a great man is gone but not his legacy!!

  • It was always a pleasure reading his books. Arthur, I believe you are as happy as you made all of us.

  • So sad to hear about this. Always wanted to meet the guy, exchange ideas. A real visionary. If it wasn't for him and the communications satellite we wouldn't be talking on here rigt now.

  • we will miss u A.C CLARKE

  • thanks for teachin me all that you could...rest in peace dear friend.....

  • I am very sad.

Thank you for a wonderful work.

    A great loss, to humanity.

  • Rest in peace ye father of science fiction!

  • I am so sorry dear Arty. Thank you for all that you have done for me. Thank you for making my life more full filled and more profound. You were my friend though you didn't know me but I did know you.

Shine on you crazy diamond and I hope that you are among the stars you always craved for. Say hello to HAL in my name and I hope that you are both dreaming now.

  • I knew nothing about this side of him until I googled his name and gay obituary .Of interest is the Clarkives that will be released 50 years after his death .

  • I'm a huge fan .I'm a little shocked about all the accusations and his own comments (supposeedly) on his attraction to boys and Sri Lankas lax laws.Say it aint so .

  • A brilliant mind..good night sir sleep well.

  • One of the GREAT's. Clarke, Asimov, Wyndham, Blish, Heinlein, Anderson, Brunner, White, Pohl, Van Voght, Maine Hull. None gone, their writing keeps them alive. Sincere and heartfelt thanks. Rim-Runner.
