mongols never extended to the far north of Russia so it was hardly taken over completely. Couldn't even take all of India merely being relegated to the northern portions. Eastern Europe was always an underdeveloped backwater (even today) compared to Western Europe. It's like bullying the little 6th graders while avoiding the bigger 8th graders lol.
