I agree with nickerbelly - prior to an electrical strike their are elements connecting earth and sky - the cross would have been a contact point like a lightning rod - ionised air may have built a track to it.

Wow I can see that ray very clearly :D, One thing I know about these things is. Not everyone can see it, Even if its right there in front of your face, If you don't believe it or your mind is programmed a specific way due to your beliefs or what you've been told or thought. It will defiantly stop you from seeing or noticing things like this.

It could also be a sun ray just happening to hit the cross at this precise moment. The "dark ray" is just the shadow of the cross. Nice though!

I have seen plenty of ion streams, particularly when I lived in africa - always during stormy or very cloudy weather, there weren't always lightning strikes though, sometimes the ion stream would just gradually fade out.

How was the weather?, if there was a storm building it could have been an ion stream caused by electrical build-up in the air, these are quite common in electrical storms, and if they meet a downward stream you get a bolt of lightning.

If however it was clear and sunny then I cannot offer an explanation I'm afraid.

assuming that the video is not fake, or the camera CCD sucks under high contrast conditions, this is simply a shadow casted by the cross....think of it as the opposite of a sun ray. Jet contrails can do this too when the sun is positioned right.

I saw the exact same grey line phenomenon in my home town a few years back, so decided to break out the telescope to take a closer look (320x magnification). It was a swarm of flies. I couldn't believe it! To this day, I still haven't found an explanation for it.

I know many people will probably put this theory down, so I'll find the pics on my backup drive and make a vid tomorrow showing them all - the wide angle and extreme zoom pics (if I remember that is ;)).

Ihave seen a similar thing occur with a differant object and I believe its an effect caused by moisture and lighting that has to be just right. Its unusual but its simply a phenomenon that rarely occurs. Kind of like moon dogs or sun dogs.

yes, it was visible for a couple of minutes and was also seen by my wife. I took a photo where can see that the beam was a few kilometers high. I have also seen with a binoculars and it seemed as if within the ray was raining, snowing, or something similar

It a colour inbalance with your cameras CCD chip. It looks as if the camera is have a tough time track the difference between the dark portion (ie the cross) and the lighter image on the screen (ie. the sky). As a result, the camera is causing the ghost shadow effect the is being seen from the top of the cross....Sorry Aint nothing supernatural in this video

It appears to be a morning shot. One can hear a rooster crow in the background. There is low lighting. The camera may say 14hr 40m but the camera can be reset to any time. Therefore, it appears to be the sun rising from behind the hill and casting a shadow that is actually horizontal and not vertical. Nice try almaglio but you've been busted!

The sun is behind the hill, and the cross is projecting its shadow through the hazy atmosphere. I've seen that happen with jet trails and long objects.

or just think of it this way, your looking up at the cross ontop of a muddy hill, in weather similar to the weather in jurasic park you know with the rain, where there could be any venom spitting dinosaur lurking, now think of this mud hill, and your looking at it from the opposite of a truck thats facing you with its head lights on, you see the shadow of the cross on the rain, or the smoke caused by a near by forest fire....get it?

Actually you can see the "shadow" as a "dark ray" because the sun is iluminating everything but not the particles in the air that is in the shadow.

To make it easier to understand think of mid day with the sky full of clouds but some holes that the light ray pass thru, now invert the situation.

Its a lens effect, next time that happens, place abother stick next to the cross and you will see that same. Either that or an atmospheric effect.
