Also note how she says she's making the 'Medicine' as a gift for everyone. She was willfully poisoning them all.

By the time Miku calls it poison, everyone else is dead.

Did she know she was killing them all? I've read that she thought it was just a "sleeping medicine," a "gift," but it was really a poison and she was tricked, and I've read that she was hiding what she did by calling it a "gift" when it was poison until everybody was dead.

@RhenNightshade I'm pretty sure she was aware. She says, "Its a very powerful medicine. It's effects will stay within you(r) forever." Miku knew what she was doing. At first, she helped everyone in the town sleep by giving something to do that for them. However, she most likely switched medicines around or added a poisonous chemical in it; claiming it's a "gift" but is actually a poison.

i love how they used the german and english meanings of "gift" cause i thought about that when i was little.
back then i only spoke german and had a pikachu tamagotchi and there was an option that said "gift" and the more you gave pikachu the happier hed be. i didnt know that gift meant present in english so i was always so confused like "why does pikachu get happy from poision??" xD
my mom later explained to me that gift means present in english..that makes so much more sense xD

(For confused people)
In the beginning, they show the translation of "Gift" in English which shows as "present".
But later on in the song, the meaning changes to German "Gift" meaning "Poison"
It meant that what Margarita thought was a "Present" was actually a "Poison". It's somewhat like a play on words.

@salamanserx That's more or less outright stated by the song. The only thing is I think it was poison the entire time. A lot of people call death 'Eternal sleep'. Miku specifically says she is the 'Princess sandman who brings eternal repose'. Look hard enough, and theres hints that it's poison and not medicine throughout the entire thing. Also note how she says she's making the 'Medicine' as a gift for everyone. She was willfully poisoning them all.

You could, for example,individually poison them all, by putting the poison in their food, like the children in 'Flowers in the Attic'. As for it being called medicine, both what conan said, and Miku is singing it. A murderer does not normally admit trying to murder someone until theres no one else around to hear it. By the time Miku calls it poison, everyone else is dead.
