i wanted to be a psychiatrist because i genuinely want to help people get well in alternative ways then medicine. I plan on going into neurology and then possibly psychiatry afterwards. I believe that psychiatry can be a legit science but the brain needs to be tested on , chemicals need to be measured and identified in different parts of the brain through factual evidence. It's possible to make this credible, but we need honest men who re willing to partake the journey.

How can you pretend to be objective when you misrepresent facts. The doctor has a good points- who are you to judge a profession? Psychiatrists go through 10 years of medical school and typically work 60-70hrs a week with some of the most challenging patients out there. How wrong you are my friend. Satan is thousands of times wiser than the smartest human being. Satan is the wisest, creature GOD Has ever created.
One angel killed 185,000 humans by himself, satan is a seriphim, the most powerful of all angels. Luckily for us, GOD gives him limited power over us...he can only tempt us. Psychiatry is a false religion, It is against what GOD says.
The psychiatrist and yourself are decieved. That means when you are decieved you don't even know it.

If you are going to tell me psychiatry is not a religion, well yes it is. It is a practice, and a false one.
Did a psychiatrist ever tell a patient to pray to GOD?
GOD would never be happy with how psychiatrists put trust in man-made poison (medicine) to "help" patients with
behavior problems, which are sins, not mental illnesses.
If you trust in GOD, surrender your life to GOD, you will never need to seek out a shrink or take drugs!!!

dangerous manipulants with the title of doctor ...!and then they make you hungry and dry your lungs ..isolate you from water ..and make you agressive and crazy from hunger.. and find you agressive and ill..then they ask court to MARK YOU AS A DANGEROUS ILL..!if they need you to be destroyed,...they will manage any time! @h60562 I dont have an easy answer for this question, but I have seen that some people who ends up in the clutches of psychiatry resolved all their problems when they came in contact with a philosophy that filled their lives with meaning.
Also, if people are in a truly unbalanced state, so that they need people to care for them, then these people should possess very different characteristics than that of torturists and goons that I have seen many psychiatric workers are made of.

@CCHRLondon Patients have their own advocacy groups and they can speak for themselves. They do not need you to represent them and put words in their mouths. The arguments you present are unintelligent and thus reflect negatively on legitimate advocacy groups.

FYI ECT is reserved for patients that don't respond to other forms of treatment (ex. drugs or cognitive behavioural therapy). It's used as a sort of last resort when all else has failed. If you are as arrogant as to accuse a particular class of physicians as being sadists, then please suggest an alternative to drugs and ECT. If you were in charge, do you really think you could do any better??

Maybe you can realize that schizophrenia is one of the most terrible diseases that appear in man because it steals the freedom of decision. Try to get an idea of that amount of suffering.

Maybe we are not able to cure this disease, as asked by the interviewer. But we are able to reduce the suffering in an significant amount not only with pharmaceuticals but with an understanding of that particular disease, with housing-solutions. Science of psychiatry has led our society to accept mentally altered people and to offer an opportunity for therapy. Not long ago, schizophrenic people had easyly been killed, considered to be witches etc...there is still far to go.

When you have a better solution to the problems of people's suffering than they do, then PLEASE let us know: WHAT it is and HOW you know that it WORKS, and how it can be communicated into the world! Otherwise, it sounds to me like the mutterings of an unhappy cockroach. Sorry to be so frank, as you probably have a good reason for such hate. I hope some non-shrink can lighten the load.

He questioned your apparent pose of standing on higher moral ground.....I do as well: the psychiatrist comes across as an intelligent deep man who is interested in truth and the wellbeing of his patients, one difficult "case" after another, all human beings in trouble. See the creationists misstreatment of Richard Dawkins for background.

There is a HUGE, godzilla sized problem with the medical community having the same arrogant disregard and psychopathic ego that the nazi scientists had.
By the way, many nazi 'doctors' were brought over to America after the war, and continued their brutal abuses on Americans, including children.

This psychiatrist's disrespect for the interviewer dissapoints me. But remember that not every psychiatrist in the world is a bad person. These people go thorugh anywhere from 8-12 years of schooling and residency before they can become a fully liscenced psychiatrist. If they were really just looking for money, then they sure were patient for taking a decade's worth of college schooling. Keep in mind, he is expressing his opinion. Don't judge an entire group based off of this one jerk.

That's just a lack responsibility for the damage that's being done. Many psychiatrists have had enough integrity to state publicly the damage psychiatry does once they realise its lack of efficacy. In doing so put their professional reputation on the line and did not stupidly carry on. That's the difference, so please don't be an apologist when so many peolpe have been victimised. Psychiatrists are not acting innocently, they know full well the results of their actions as exposed by this video.
