Many years after settling down as a top singer and music director, Ghantasal heard Bade Ghulam Ali Khan saab in Madras and became his disciple to learn Hindustani. That show what a great student of music was he--his thirst and hunger to learn any form of music was never ending. His mastery over every raaga was more than displayed in the thousands of songs he rendered--within the short 3 or 5 minute songs he was displaying his great talent in classical music--with gamaks, taan, alaap etc.
In Mohana ( Bhopali ) Nishadam is varjit--not to be used yet, Ghantasala Master and Pendyala touch Nishadam and add enormous beauty to this tune. Hats off to those great old masters. Peculiarly in the part sung by Susheela Nishadam was not at all used. In Hindustani Music Ustaads use Varjit swars very rarely to add beauty to their rendition of some Raagas just for experiment. Ghantasal was in no way less than an Ustad, having learnt Karnatik music since childhood and Hindustani in adulthood
Pendyala was a bit of an unsung hero, though a genius. The simple Mohana ( Bhopali ) sounds so melodious in the voices of Ghantasala and Susheela and the orchestration so simple yet so touching--an evergreen melody indeed!!!!
Excellent post by Purushottam. I've prolly seen/listened to this song over a thousand time, but the 1001st time, it still feels like watching for the 1st time! That is the true genius of this song. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention N.T.R. The reason this is so memorable is that we imagine Krishna Raaya exactly as N.T.R. He suits this role as if he TRULY was Krishna Raaya in a previous birth! The fact that N.T.R. achieved as much as perhaps Krishna Raaya adds to the glory of this song/movie!
Soothing and melodiuos music, very rich lyrics, fine art direction and great actors. The entire team desrves great appreciation. The beauty of this song suggests the quality of Telugu films in those years. We like to listen them any number of times. Every time we listen these songs, we feel relaxed and refreshed.
i really appreciate the guy who posted the video. It is one of the greatest song, and its my favourite.Thankyou so much for uploading this video. One more req.If you have this movie pls upload it.I die for this movie.
