Because there is a theory, that Mayans themselves were Aliens. One of their great leaders Pacal was sculptured on a spaceship.

Mayans were very good in Astronomy and many believe they either were aliens, or they came in contact with the aliens.

So one day they all disappeared.

It's very interesting, Mayan winged god kakula was also worshiped by the Sumerians the first ever civilization. Sumerians, Mayans, Egyptions all believed that their gods go to star clusters after their death.
