well "magnetite" you have collected does not have magnetic properties.
Does it? there is distinctive difference between natural magnetic material and just metal ore in the sand. Ferrite contains oxidized micro sand metal particles insulated and as such magnetically independent as micro magnets of temporary stage of memory..only when under influence of magnetic field and or magnetic component of electromagnetic field. Magnets( neodymium) have steady stage of memory.(compressed magnetic ore)
@stivep1 It is a form of iron and will stick to a magnet. I was hoping it would act like an iron core; perhaps I should have added more. The hope was to increase magnetic flux without adding a lot of cogging.
in the azores in Portugal our beaches are all black, so they are all magnetite beaches? i mean if i put a magnet on the sand, the sand actualy stiks to the magnet
I like the experiment except I might want to energize the coil to create a magnetic field before sealing the particles into place. Resin is likely too thick; resisting particle alignment. Maybe apply a field and then dump in the magnetite and then hair spray them to freeze them and then add resin afterward.
you can buy magnetite on Ebay...search Blue Marble Products. :)

go in YouTube to Nanorust - Magnetite Kitchen Synthesis
This is what you missing to make ferrites from your metal ore

This guy poured a stator using iron filings and resin. I thought you might be interested. Notice also his over-lapping coil winding strategy.

Do magnetite particles have a magnetic polarity ?

I don't know if they have a magnetic polarity. I think it is just particles of a form of iron and oxygen (like rust).

Try filling the coil with as much magnetite as you can and then measure V and A.

I want to try one more experiment with what I have and then I can do that. It might be a while before I have time though.

great video thanks for sharing it looks like you really know what you are doing

Thanks, but I'm still on a steep learning curve. An experiment here and there really helps.
