I have been in television news for almost 20 years. Death and destruction is not news. I don't care what stupid consultants think either. Consultants are former news directors and producers who got fired because they sucked at their jobs. Not every lead story on every station has to be a house fire, car crash, or some other crap like that.
@MrSickofstupidity That's because audiences say it IS news. TV research has shown that for years, and TV news websites are reflecting that research. I know because I work at a station with one of the largest Facebook followings in the country. Commercial media simply reflect what most people want.
