  • You're pretty good mate. I just discovered the dulcimer yesterday & now I'm in love with it! Watch Dizzi Dulcimers vids to get some extra tips.

How long did it take you to get to this proficiency?

  • WOW.... how you can see the strings??? jejejje sign543, dulcimer its similar to play a piano??? thank you... i love this sounds

  • Wow this is a beautiful instrument. I love instruments. I need one of these... Lol I have no i dea how one could possibly hit individual strings so perfectly though.

  • I love the bass. it really makes me want to tap time with my feet

  • I have played a lap harp for some time now, but never felt truly happy with it... always felt like something was missing. I never knew something like the hammered dulcimer existed until I came across your "Music Box Dancer" video! I am seriously considering learning how to play after watching this. Thanks so much!

  • your name is tony? huh.. i never knew

WHY DONT I KNOW THEESE THINGS?!?!?! IM SO IGNORENT!!!

  • love it! was the dulcimer a hard instrument to become proficient with?

  • At first, it was a little difficult, but it became easier very quickly after learning a few songs. :)

  • @sign543 I thought a song was sung and "Tunes" were played on instruments!

I have listened several times and hear no singing. Grammer aside, good vid and entertaining - One of the first "TUNES" I learned about 40 years ago.

  • wow, now that looks like fun. i believe i'v found meself a new instrument to try out. man, now thats interesting. i'v wondered what stringed instruments besides the harp and the lute people jammed on during medieval times

  • Just close your eyes and imagine yourself riding horseback down the Blue Ridge Parkway thru the mountains of NC on a cool foggy fall day, with the leaves changing colors around you.

  • Hi, The first time I heard the hammered dulcimer was a video my company did,Seagull Pewter from Nova Scotia Canada. It has a disticnt sound. You play very well and I like the songs you choose.Keep up the great work!!

  • Wow, that was great. But, my hammered dulcimer doesn't have bass with it...

  • Wonder if this is multi-tracked?

I thought I could hear a bass in there?

  • very cool--I was curious to see this instrument played...you make it look so easy!

  • That was the COOLEST! I would LOVE to learn to play the dulcimer! Great job!

  • were can I buy one of these?

  • Whoa! that is the coolest! Who knew that sign543 was more than just a funny video editor, not that you just edit videos, i mean, you do other stuff, like talking and telling stories like the story about that one time you did that movie review about fargo. Anyway... Nice job :-)

  • The multitaltened, musically diverse Tony!!!! You need to do some backups for ...Rufie! nancy

  • Oh my God I'd so buy yer album!!!! You are so good

  • Goddamn, that sounded awesome. A mark of an excellent musician is when his playing inspires others to learn his instrument. I want to learn the hammered dulcimer now. (Derek Bell helped me with that as well).

  • haha its great! im watching all ur vids from the beginning so i can catch up :D keep the good stuff coming

  • If you make an album, ill buy it.

  • me too! pretty darn good, and I play dulcimer..

  • It would be just lovely if there were a repeat setting here...

  • VERY enchanting! Seriously, you need to post more of your playing! And, whoever is playing with you is pretty good too...WONDERFUL!!

  • Thank you! I created the background track in GarageBand. :)

  • Just got home...what make is your dulcimer? That is something I'ves been wanting to learn for a long time...looks easier than the piano and guitar...I love those two instruments too, but they are pretty hard to move with...:)

  • that is amazingly done.. its such a wonderful instrament..thanks for sharing

  • The sound of this instrument sends shivers down my spine.

  • i lovvee thisss! never seen the instrument before

    I love the Dulcimer!!!

I attempt to play a Mandolin but the Dulcimer was my first choice!

  • Don't you love this instrument?? It's so delightful to listen to and to play. I discovered it by accident and then found I had a knack for it. THANK YOU. ;)

  • WOW, that was GREAT! I want you to get that thing out after we've had a few shots!!

  • LOL! Hey, that would be fun, actually! it's always right here on it's stand. :) HUGS!

  • That was fantastic!

  • incredible! i'm going to have to go through your vids, this is the first 'old' one i clicked and my jaw is still on the floor....

  • I'm curious, what exactly got you into playing the dulcimer and how did you learn?

  • This is just great tony, 5 stars!

  • WOW, I love the HD. There is an English comic/radio presenter Mike Harding who has LOADS of these and plays them really well . Thats where I first heard of them when I was about 20 when I saw an interview with him and he was showing the HD's to the interviewer. Then I did a bit of medievil re enactment and these were used a bit by some of them :) Great instrument!!

  • teknoboy, I asked the same questions and since he didn't answer, I will tell you; he has a recording in the background and he is playing along with the music, so it's a correlation of music.

  • Probably a stupid series of questions, but are you playing this accompanied by a bass? or are you plucking bass strings with your hands?

Or am I a complete idiot and ive missed the obvious?

  • I love to listen to you play! It's so soothing and relaxing :-) How hard was it to learn to play?

  • I love listening to you play. This is really beautiful. I've gone through all of your videos now and am having to rewatch. I'm feeling quite desperate for more!

  • *hug* Thank you. I need to play more. But...I'm enjoying the goofy ones more. *laugh*

  • That was incredible!!

I have always loved tyhat song ever since my favoite musician(And Hammer Dulcimer player himself) first plaeyed it at the Renaissance Faire. I hope we hear more from you in the future.

  • I appreciate that. Thank you!

  • That is the coolest thing I've EVER heard!!

  • btw I love your couch, sofa, whatever you may call it. AND your cuff bracelet/and of course the song.

  • looks like you and Joey were plucked from the deep end of the talent pool huh?

    very kewl!

  • I think I came from the shallow end. *laugh*

  • never saw that instrument before, pretty cool

  • Thats so cool!I love this hornpipe on mandolin.

  • I've never heard that....I would love to, though. :)

  • max zt annihilates you on hammered dulcimer haha you blow

  • Yes, Max ZT is incredible. I'm a big fan. I don't think he'd share your mean-spirited sentiments, though. Grow up. :)

  • Never mind the haters! I think the sounds are lovely and you're very talented! I came to your channel via Sarry Crey. She is right! You're worth listening to :)

  • Aw, thank you!!!! *hugs*

  • And they all say IRAN SUCK. Just look at the instrument it comes from PERSIA (IRAN) nc nc nc shame on you all

  • AWESOME!!! He is great! Great song too!

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the Dulcimer

  • MY FAVORITE SONG OF YOURS!!!

  • A musical family..that's pretty cool

  • This sounds so beautiful(:

  • Lovely.

  • I'm from Scotland and we used to dance to this tune at Ceildihs ( ? forgotten the spelling ). Interesting to see how tunes evolve. I think someone called Childs done a lot of research how tunes originated and that was very interesting. This is good stuff, over here in England i've never seen a hammered dulcimer being played. Can't seem to buy one here either.

  • Ceiliegh

  • There is developing evidence of Mediterranean origins of hammered dulcimers and similar origins for some of the very old families in the southern Appalachian mountains of the USA where hammered dulcimer music is very popular.

  • Sign, could you do a video without the bas line and guitar background, with the same music, just to hear what it sounds like solo?

    Richard

  • Sure! I think I even have one already. I'll see what I can dig up. :)

  • is the hammered dulcimer hard to learn, im considering trying myself

  • It wasn't difficult for me...and most I hear say it's fairly easy to pick up. Just takes practice hitting the right courses of string. And you have to learn where the different keys are...like the key of C, G, D, and F. But the markings on the instrument help. There are some very good starter books online...you can usually find them very cheap on eBay.

  • It's more of a percussion instrument...like the piano. It's not considered a string instrument...just like the piano isn't. No instrument is too difficult to learn if you commit yourself to it...and you love it. The piano was hard for me because I didn't have the passion for it...like I do this one. :)

  • Is it hard to learn this instrument? I have background on winds, but not strings, Tony.

  • When I want to relax and let the stress leave my body, I listen this this peace, I love it.

  • There is a guitar in the background...it's my background track.

  • thats not guitar, its a freaking bass man!

great, when are u going to do a cd?

with some tecno music.. if you do it right, you will get money!

  • There is both a base line and strummed guitars, though you can't hear them on this recording. Thanks for the compliments. :)

  • Is there a guitar playing in the background, or does the hammer dolcimer sound that good?

    Richard

  • that sounded so freaking awesome.. you rock

  • excellent hand-eye coordination! You make me love the hammered dulcimer! Promise to play me something when I come see you!

    *S7*

  • I'm sitting here dancing to it! you rock at that!

  • awesome Tony!

  • Very nice! Wow your house, if that is yours, is huge...or looks it! Did Joey hold the camera? Anyway, it was leverly! Thanks for updating me:) Talk to you in like 4 minutes...hehe:)
