The default support for democracy today is kind of scary, actually. Democracy is NOT to choose, it is to have things choosen for you, like every other state in the history of man. The first states were religous institutions that used violence to maintain control, and 99% of them from there were simply organizations for the elite to collect from and control the populations. Their structure and functions grew to reflect that role. You can't fix it by simply changing how the elite get their power!

Democracy protects the majority, there are no individual rights in a democracy. In a democracy the majority may take away anything from anyone who is not part of their majority. Instead of a giant totalitarian government you have a angry mob, they are the same. A republic has a code of laws that everyone must follow even the government, it's the only system that protects all men- the only catch is we must keep an eye on our leaders before they simply begin playing by their own rules.

I saw it more as attesting to the reality of what "democracies" have turned into, and sending the message that a democracy SHOULD be a system where we choose, but has turned into a system where we are only given the illusion of choice. Then, these "choices" continue the cycle of oblivion, where we are stuck in the illusion that we have created for ourselves. I think it's actually defending the principle of democracy, but criticizing the practice.

well the majority of people don't vote in the primaries or small elections and then stomp their feet that they don't like the candidates. Choice is fine but the constitution is SUPPOSED to protect all of us, so ideally no matter what clown is in office the constitution is supposed to keep them in check, turns out we don't care about the constitution anymore, that's one of the reasons why we have our current problems.

Number one, this video was made by a Serbian-not a citizen of the United States of America. So, centralizing any argument to the U.S. is completely invalid no matter how truthful it is because the U.S. is not the only established democracy in the world and does not epitomize the entire practice of that government system. True enough. We tend to call it a democracy, which is stupid, because it's clearly not. My comment was more based on the societal acceptance of that label, vs. the actuality of it. It's easy to do that if you just watch it and don't know that background-especially if you're a citizen of the U.S, considering the emphasis we often put on the arbitrary label that is "democracy".
