Sounds like Syd Barrett on backing vocals. I just got this record, though I'd been resisting getting it for fear that it would be real corny. I was surprised at how cool it sounds to me now. "Curse of the Happiness Machine," now that's some heavy shit, man!
I must just add, that I don't really understand how it is missed out of their 'back catalogue' when other bands, "such as Pink Floyd - who I am also a big fan of, get reconised for their early roots. This is an essential 'marker' for anyone interested in the genesis of Genesis!
I am so happy to have found this album again. It reminds me of the time when I had my first apartment. I was 17 and everybody came to party with me. ....
Thank you so much for uploadind that album, it seems it is my only chance to appropriate it again, after losing my entire vynil collection some years ago...
Whenever they talk about a Genesis reunion with Gabriel and Hackett, it really annoys me that they don't include Anthony Phillips. I understand that he wasn't in the band long, but he was not only the original who started the band, he was a key song writer when in it. He still would have a lot to contribute. I would love to see all 6 of them get into the studio and see what new tracks they could come up with now, even if it was just one or two new tracks.
Did Anthony quit because he did not like to play in front of people or he did not think this was serious? Remember they are at an elite high school so he may have had other career plans like university. What is amazing is they are 17 or younger when this was done. In addition, they were playing music that Johnathan King wanted for the time. What King wanted was probably hits & rubbish. What they came up with was very good for their age & considering it was their first record.
Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoy the video... Some of the images reminded me of Peter and his masks/costumes in the early Genesis stage shows, others seemed to fit the mood of the song. I'll be posting more videos for the songs on this cd soon.
@KriyaArts Actually, the instrument in the background is a French horn (not a flute), and a member of the orchestra that Jonathan King commissioned is playing it.
Great post from Genesis from in the begining, love all eras of Geneis, i think the older the better & thx.

En 1969 salió el primer álbum del grupo Genesis. Se caracterizó por incluir temas de breve duración, entre los que destaca "Am I Very Wrong?".

This album is great, I've always liked it. If you hear it on some decent headphones the stereo seperation and recording tecniques used are fantastic.

Is that Pete playing flute in the baackground? Who did the BVs?
JIF882 3 years ago
Yes that is Peter on flute and I believe it is Mike and/or Anthony on backing vocals. I will check the credits for you.
