  • Great colors compared to what we get in FL. Love the tree from the seed; how great is that.

  • @familymatters1234 I love that tree! I remember how proud we were that it (the seed) came all the way from Missouri! That seemed so far away then. And that our Grandma had brought it home all the way on the train. And planted it in a pot, nurtured it and brought it to plant in our yard. Fun memories. Thanks for watching.

  • re: the tree seed - how fun!

  • @Elaina43 Thanks hon - it is one of my favorite stories. I've got to get more of them online.

  • LOVE THIS WEATHER!!!

  • @Elaina43 We are so lucky! Even the rain is good because we get sun in between.

  • I'm in SoCal too and really enjoyed the rain last week!

  • @SarahsAdventures Hi! Yes, I'm so grateful. I live less than 20 miles south of the mountains and can see them from my front window. So Cal has some of the best weather anywhere! :)

  • Hey there..good to see you. Wow.. you had rain..Send some here. We do not get too many fall colors here either. OH my... your tree is beautiful. Hey..HaHa.. that tree is only a little older than me. Great history. HugZ Sugar

  • @1jojolicious Hi! Yeah really - and we've had rain twice since then too. It is a really nice Fall here; cool but not cold, lots of blue skies and clear air. Chilly nights perfect for a fire. Just perfect! LOL about the age of the tree; It is older than the two youngest sisters too. We grew up under it and the one in the back yard. boy, those leaves are falling now! :)

  • The colors are so pretty. Our mountains were gorgeous this year but every time I was out to take pictures it was so cloudy and gloomy and wet! Lots of leaves!! I love that you know the history of your trees and plants. Most people don't! Hugs!

  • @imperceptibleme Yeah, you get some beautiful colors! You're right though, a ray of sunshine would have brought the color out a bit. My goal is to put up a bit of the history of the family and the house for the younger generation. Some of them really want to know. Thank you sweetie. You always leave such lovely comments!

  • Thats so cool the history of the tree in your front garden!

    Lovely colours on the trees.

  • @longcara Thank you sweetie. I'm trying to record stories for the younger generation.

  • Aww, I miss that area. We haven't been back since Joe's grandma Mary passed away about 9 years ago. TY for the tour Liz!

  • @IWalk4tnt :) I moved back here about 14 years ago and am so glad to be back. It's been a challenge because the population has increased so much and a lot has changed, but all in all, it was a good move. Thanks Sandi. If you ever get back down here, let me know!

  • Awesome tour.

  • @XrotarebiL Thank you Shane. I do love this area.

  • I enjoyed the colour tour! I love the fact that the tree has such a great history.

    Lots of leaves!

I like the fact that you have so many trees on your street, you are right, not what I expect in CA.

  • @yoyomax12 Come visit. It really is interesting. And there is so much to see and do. I really enjoy a lot about it and think you would too. It is really crowded however and housing is pricy.

  • I love the big puffy clouds! Southern California gets more color in the fall than I thought.

  • @SinisterLadybug Surprise! :) Thanks for watching.

  • I agree, when we live in a place with so much sunshine, clouds and rain are a welcome sight. Damn Liz, what's the speed limit thru your neighborhood? It seemed like you were flying! lol I love the story behind your trees, it makes them all the more special. We planted mesquite trees from seeds in our yard and the first one has grown almost to the top of our two story house and has a wonderful canopy. They grow really fast, the 1st one is only 5 years old. -Steve-

  • @OceanTownPictures :) Yeah, you get it. Today is sunny and clear with a freshly washed blue sky. Love it. It's interesting; out east and in some parts of CA, each mature tree can add a great deal to the value of your home. Here it seems that cutting them down or back to weird nubs is the thing to do. Odd. I wasn't going more than 30; I'm pretty careful; there are kids and skateboarders. But it did look fast, you're right.

  • @thizizliz 30!!!? omg...15 is the regular speed for most neighborhoods around here. lol

  • I remember my first trip to SoCal... It was in December, and I was amazed at how green everything was in the city, yet golden in the hills. You show us a lot more fall color than I thought there was down that way.

  • @fehquig Yeah, where yards are watered, they stay green. The hills go golden with lack of water. In the spring they are a beautiful, vibrant green! It almost looks like velvet sometimes. I'm so glad to live here (most the time). :) Thanks Andy.

  • Thanks for taking us along, Liz. And you're right - the sky is gorgeous. Our leaves are just about over.

    Great little tour! Liked it!

    - roc

  • @popparoc46 Thanks for coming along Roc. And thank you for wearing your seatbelt. You're such a quiet passenger, one would almost forget you were in the car! :)

  • Thank you for sharing your part of the world.

  • @SugarInHisBlood Hi Steve - thanks for watching.

  • Brilliant for a desert...brilliant anyway...that large tree in your front...I have 2 of those planted also...5 years or so...to think they will grow that big...help..! But I'll be long gone...really enjoyed seeing your neighbourhood trees and the Sugar Maples..lovely...thanks Liz. ps...your house looks lovely too...!

  • @xyzllii Thank you Kristine. Are you moving house? Leaving that lovely garden? Oh my. We moved into this house in 1955. My dad built the block walls separating the yards and planted the grass and trees. Now days I'd never plant grass here; it's the wrong thing. But it's here and I do like it. It's a lower middle class suburban area of mostly families and fairly well kept. Thanks for the comments.

  • @thizizliz No no Liz...I meant I will be long gone into that place called 'HEAVEN'....ha!...by the time they grow to be that large...!

  • @xyzllii :) Well, given that my tree is almost 60 years old, that could be true. :) Funny!!!!!

  • Wow, you get a lot of nice color in the fall.. We don't get much of anything here where I am.. It's so pretty there! Love that tree in your yard!!

  • @mysteryglo Thank you Judy. I love it because of it's history and frankly because of the privacy and shade it provides in summer. There's a bigger one in the back! :)

  • Liz that was absolutely beautiful. I love fall it just doesn't last long enough here in south La. We have way too much summer lol. Isn't it incredible that the northeast already had a blizzard?? Poor Zipster. Bet he wishes he was in Cali. I love a nice thunderstorm but the cat, not so much. Thanks for sharing !!

  • @jcrefasi1 That's one of the great things about our country - We pretty much have it all. I prefer the warm after doing my time in Minnesota and I prefer the dry after doing time in TN. I"m not a fan of humidity, yet both those places and La have much to offer. I love that you can pretty much close your eyes, point to a place on the map and find something there worthy seeing! We are very lucky! :)

  • The really bad storm Irene ruined our colors. Killed a lot of leaves with the salt water blown about. So we really aren't getting the colors we usually get. :(

  • @Illuminatta That sucks Toni - I'm just glad you're okay, but sorry you missed the best part of your fall. Here's hoping its not the start of a brutal winter!

  • @thizizliz Oh, we are already hearing it's going to be a bad one like last year! Cross your fingers and toes they are wrong! :)

  • HEY LADY THAT VIDEO IS NICE TOO SEE IN CAR

  • @history797 :) Thank you for riding along!

  • i wonder if those sugar maples would grow in hot texas? the colors are stupendous! wow you know as much about your trees as i do. thanks for the ride. waves~~

  • @crosspecans LOL - honey I have no idea! The boulevard trees used to be all elms but then dutch elm disease took them and they were replaced by sugar maples. I learned that the color is not triggered by temp but rather by the length of the night time. We had them up north in Minnesota. Oh, google says they grow in zones 4-9. Aren't you 9? Come back anytime. I've got more stuff to show ya!

  • The rains are great fun every now and then! It's a nice change of pace around these parts. It's FREEZING and rainy here! It's 37 degrees as I write this!

Big BEAUTIFUL tree! Your desert is a lot greener than my desert...LOL

    xoxoxo

  • There's an odd kind of emotion in seeing a tree years after you've planted it, or at least one whose history you know.

  • Great sky all over today!!

  • @hallbe Oh good. Yours was too? I really want to come see Oregon. Maybe some day.

  • Nice to know the leaves change color in southern Cali! Looking forward to seeing that close up next year, thanks for sharing, Liz! :)

  • @theloathlydaddy You're welcome Steve! A lot of things are similar to Florida, but with much lower humidity. San Diego is the most temperate city in the US; rarely cold, rarely hot. The ocean keeps it nice all the time.
