This reminds me of Alla Nazamova in "Salome". Check it out on You Tube. This movie has a "plot" written by Oscar Wilde but besides the color it's feels so similar.
I love Matthew Barney. His images are always very compelling to me. Lush, vivid, beautiful and sometimes horrific. I wish I could find some place that is exhibiting the entire Cremaster Cycle in sequence.
he whole work is about the freemasons and how you start by becoming an entered apprentice, and what you need to do to become a master mason. it's a metaphor for the order of the world and the chaos in it, though the theme of fremasonry
Matthew Barney has such a different feel from other artists. He isn't a part of any scene, and he is completely an individual. He's not concerned about art theories, or the art world, he just focuses on production. This is why I love him, and his work. His videos, even if you don't get them, possess such a distinct beauty.
Say what you want about Barney being a hack/chauvinist/wtfever, that harp part at the start of this scene is freaking amazing. There's a reason (other than the Barney Inflation Index) that the soundtrack to this movie is hard to find, and expensive when you do find it. Props to Messr. Bepler.

You're correct. This is just stylized smut trying to pass itself off as "art". When a people willfully sins as much as our society has, we will eventually be blinded as a judgment against us, putting good for evil and evil for good. God have mercy upon us.
I love Barney's work so much. It's hard for me to grasp some of his concepts (I don't think critically enough, I know his work is highly significant though). I know this specific clip included reference to androgeny and tension but I am still trying to figure out what was trying to be done to his genital like apendage. Was there supposed to be a literal event or was it symbolic?
ok, this part was cool...but Barney's work freaks me out anyway. It's like...dunno: scary? I would never stay locked in a room with Matthew Barney AND a knife LOL
I love this part of The Cremaster Cycle. Its artistic, but still so naturaly. Big symphony of pigeons, ribbons and Giant in beautiful baths in Budapest. This is art with big A.

I can't even express the genius that this film series is. Quite the culmination of art theory through the ages. Almost flawless.

i wish i had 4 blonde jap mermaids tending to my cock in a philipe stark bath.
looks cool, but you have to question if barney deserves the adoration and claims of genius he receives.
