  • He won a Tony he doesn't suck i just hear jealousy. He doesn't have the greatest voice on the planet but he by far puts in the most emotion into his character but his voice to me is awesome.

  • damn, Gallagher sucks! I will never understand why he was cast, other than he was a good actor for the part. She's really good though!

...You just answered your own question--he was cast because he was a good actor. Also, the many fans seem to disagree with your opinion of Gallagher's singing.

    Myself included.

  • @sherrycq Well that's fine, I'm not the all powerful entity who proclaims absolute truth, it's just an opinion. I will tell you that I am a trained musician and from a technical standpoint, he's very , VERY bad. BUT, that doesn't have to stop others from liking the sound. and they don't, cause my opinion really doesn't matter, so there's no need to get defensive. just say'n.

  • @evand2

No offense taken. However, how is he BAD? I'm an actor with vocal and choir training, and I don't see anything particularly wrong with his voice. He's got a rather heavy alt-rock way of singing, which I can understand isn't for everyone--otherwise he's on-key, understandable, and fun to listen to.

I admit that he has a burr in his voice that's REALLY exaggerated in this song, though.

  • @sherrycq well it's his technique. He is putting a lot of tension in his throat and there is virtually no space in his mouth aka, not lifting the soft pallet for ressonance. again, not whether or not he's in key, or if it fits the styling, it's just technically bad. And not just bad, in my opinion, to listen to, but also bad for his voice. He'll have vocal noduals in no time. but, as I said, obviously the general public likes the sound so I guess that's why he's on broadway and I'm not. lol

  • @evand2

To be fair, he really only sounds like this for the soundtrack recording. His other songs (The Bitch of Living, Touch Me, And Then There Were None, Those You've Known) and the live versions of Don't Do Sadness are a lot better technically.

Also, his Broadway run was only a year.

  • Love this song!
