I like this song. It is a little creepy thinking about the stigma behind it but really it was just boys and men who were going to war, probably to die. A very nice song and quite touching as well in a way reflecting the soldier missing his beloved. Of course the song was used by the Nazi army and carries that stigma for some but that should not detract from the song itself

Not correct. It was composed in 1939 by Herms Niel (real name Ferdinand Friedrich Hermann Nielebock), who was an early member of the Nazi party (joining in 1933, they year they came to power in Germany). He composed many marching songs for the Nazis - which doesn't mean that this isn't a nice tune of itself. Still, his background and that of this song is definitely Nazi-oriented propaganda.
