This was intense. My sister & I remember seeing this on TV back in '91 when we were just kids & wondered why at around 5:38 the camera guy says "whoops."
The fireman in this video (paddy barr) that rescues the victim from the window is my dad <3 i think firemen in NYC are so awesome, this happened when i was only 5 and i still cant believe how cool it is <3 i <3 firemen
i as many others are very greatful to your dad and all his comrades for choosing this job and the services they give with their swet and blood. the lives in the city and withan the department touched will live forever.
This is definately one of the most intense Rescue 911 shows I've seen. I've often wondered why they didn't use helicopters to try to rescue people hanging out the top floor windows on 9/11. I'm not a firefighter or anything, so I'm sure there was a good reason why they couldn't... anyways, this was amazing.
This operation is a last resort and is done once every decade, if that. The members practice it frequently though. Re: Helicopters, FDNY doesn't have their own. Blame the City for that one.
those rescues happen alot more than once a decade my friend... its more like 4 to 10 times a year, last year rescue 1 had 2 rope rescues just like this about 1 hour apart from eachother
@srubi74 There was no plan for a roof rescue on a building that high. Also it was way too smoky on that roof, and the roof had too much equipment on it, and was possibly too hot, for a helicopter pilot to even think of landing on it. Also the access to the roof was usually locked.
This reminds me of one of the rescues in the movie "Ladder 49"

Your Dad totally rocks! You have every reason to be proud of him and we're all thankful for all he did for the city and our country.
I cried with relief and gratitude when they made it to the window safely. What an amazing rescue!

This rescue needs a larger Aerial ladder truck if they had one.
