  • Heaven.

  • "It's A Good Day" was written and originally recorded by Kay's Capitol Records sister Miss Peggy Lee. She and Peg were mutual admirers. Capitol had a corner on great lady singers including Kay, Peg, Margaret Whiting, June Christy and Helen O'Connell. "Wheel of Fortune" was first recorded on Derby by Sunny Gale; Kay was called in to record her version in the middle of the night and her record was out in one day.

  • I just love Kay Starr! What a beautiful woman with a stunning voice. I wish music was like this today. Style and class.

  • Now I know who sang Wheel Of Fortune,... I have it on a wire recorder spool of wire, someone recorded it from the radio back in the `50s with a bunch of other songs, and this song has been stuck in my head ever since then, thanks for posing this clip Kay Star was very pretty, and she could belt out a song

  • Happy Birthday Kay! 6/22/22

  • Wish someone would post Ms Starrs appearences n the Perry Como Show of the late 50s she looks AMAZING and stunning and sounded her very best. Can't find them anywhere but I know they exist. I saw them on a friends video tape yrs ago.

  • Love the lush sax bed under her vocal on "Wheel of Fortune"....live performance more punch than '52 Capitol release.

  • Boy, she sure could belt it out, eh?

  • This is from a TV show she did witth Tony Bennett. he sang One for My baby all in Italian. They sang great together!

  • @KentuckyJet It is from an episode of ''Colgate Comedy Hour'' (Aired 2/3/1952). I don't think Tony is in the episode, but it has been months since I saw it, so I may be wrong.

  • The first song is "It's A Good Day." Peggy Lee had a #16 hit on Billboard's Disc Jockey chart with it in 1947. Kay Starr's version of "Wheel Of Fortune" spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Juke Box chart, 9 weeks at #1 on the Best Sellers chart, and 9 weeks at #1 on the Disc Jockey chart in 1952.

  • I wasn't even born when this video was made but Kay Starr's amazing voice is one of my all time favorites!

  • How wonderful to see Kay on this very early TV appearance. Thanks so much for sharing it with us on youtube.

  • She was Ringo Starr's mother, right?

    (just kidding!)

  • Wow! Thanks. I never heard/saw this.

  • Kay Starr is TOPS!

  • What a performer! The first song is "It's a Good Day" that was written and performed originally by Peggy Lee.

  • kay is so awesome!

  • It's definitely a good day after listening to this!!!
