Its not enough to make them illegal (cuz they are), but it is important to make this practices culturally unacceptable. Dowry deaths, female infanticide and honour killings are not going to stop unless these societies change the way they see women --not as inferiors, but as equals. Until a woman is not seen in terms of wife, mother or whore, but as a person with her own distinctive character, these evils will not stop. Read about theh spanish inquisition of how Christian clergy would burn to death millions of women all over Europe who were accused of being witches. The woman would only prove she is innocent if she did not burn, which almost never happen.
Christianity also has it's skeletins in the closset as well. You should not forget it.

The Rig Veda states that cows and gifts given by the father of the bride to the daughter accompanied the bride's procession [Rg Ved X.85][Apte 12]. Kakshivat says he became rich by the father-in-law giving him 10 chariots and maids and 1060 cows during the marriage ceremony [Rg Ved I.126]

In the bible the story of how King David had sex with a married women Bathsheba and later he conspired to kill her husband Uriah, so people would not find out David made Bathsheba pregnent. Using your logic does that mean we should be able to have sex with married women and kill their husbands?

You still have not proven that dowry is a requirement in the Hindu religion. Please tell me where it is stated in the Hindu scriptures that dowry is a requirement. You can't, and you know why? because dowry is a cultural aspect not a religious requirement.

I dont know why dont you ask the guy who made this. I can translate this- the old womans daughter was married in may 1978 and in 1979 they burned her daughter to death because her family didnt get a dowry. The english bits are pretty much the overall review of what the hindus are saying.
