I just heard her singing "Danny Boy" in another clip. While drying my tears (hrrm), I thought that you probably had done something about her. And yes! Here it is! Superb work as usual. Thanks!
Nice, basilnelson. Interesting that I find you on the same star performers whom I've also enjoyed. Though Deanna must have broke lots of hearts to retire so early, I am glad she's had a fulfilled life leaving hollywood. One can't give to family members and hollywood equally. It doesn't work. cheers.
a chick of 30s...my family were long ago friends of their vocal coach..Andres Perello de Segurola a grand aunthie took lessons with him..she knew Deanna ..still a Opera fan
Edna Mae has been my first love and the queue that follows me is universal in length. It was maximum domage when she departed to France and out of sight, mais never out of my heart. Ian.
I enjoyed Deanna when I was young, and now at 73 I have videos to watch and hear all ny favourite songs..I know they tried to coax her to sing with Mario Lanza. Another great singer. They cannot be bettered.
thank you basil I enjoy your video very much . I am still working and beside I hear this wonderful music. Music helps to destress and to start dreaming. Kurt , Vienna
Kiri was trained to sound and act exactly like Deanna by her music teacher, Dame Sister Mary Leo. Callas and Sutherland were voted numbers 1 and 2 sopranos of all time by English "experts". I am inclined to agree with what you say. It seems that if you want to be recognised by experts, you had better not be a nice person!
She was supposed to go there to film 3 more films but instead was married to Charles David and retired to raise her children. There's a clip somewhere of Judy Garland talking about it ... about how weird it was (for Judy) to imagine Deanna being "normal" and buying vegetables and getting "fat". Very amusing. You could also wikipedia Ms. Durbin for more information although she is known to be a very private person and there isn't much available.
I can't find information on Charles David II's nationality or even when he was born but I did find that he worked for Pathe Films (accent on the e) in France when he married Deanna and worked on a number of french films in addition to his other work, which appears to be from the UK, including his earliest. I am assuming that he was from the UK originally, then. His name is also a clue. He was Deanna's third husband and they lived in Normandy. He died in Paris on 3/1/99 of natural causes.
David is strangely (to us)as French a surname as it is a Christian name -in English.Living in Normandy leads me to believe him to be from Brittany-far from Paris. They lived, and he died in Paris. She seems to have disappeared from the radar.
Superb presentation of the always delightful Deanna Durbin! I particularly like the way the color gradually appears. So many terrific images of a true Hollywood giant! And hearing Deanna sing ALWAYS was the icing on the cake! Thank you for this homage!
I am writing this with tears in my eyes. This was my late mother's favourite version of her favourite song. She walked around the house lovingly singing this.R.I.P.mother dear!
Until now, I never really appreciated what a beautiful woman Miss Durbin was, having always thought of her among the 'cute' & 'sweet' of Hollywood for some reason! She was a stunning lady and your tribute to her is superb.
Wow! I found Deanna Durbin from linking through Pavarotti's rendition of Nessum Dorma, to Sarah Brightman's and finally to Deanna's rendition in english. I am enlightened. Thank you.
Над ней бог долго и усердно трудился! Спасибо ему!!!

She was really cute! I wonder how different "The Wizard of Oz" would have been if she did star in it like Hollywood originally wanted.

This was originally supposed to be a response to paulostroff99's inquiry about why Deanna Durbin moved to France, by the way.

Thank you for far more than I could find out.Why did she live out her life in France. Was Mr. David her husband -a French national?

No sopranos or tenors today who can match the beauty and vocal approach of Durbin's singing.
