This would not happen to Akiyama if he was Brazilian. If Anderson Silva got knocked out by Misaki the crowd, commentators, and organizers would be rather conservative. They would not laugh at his face. You wouldn't see Japanese fighters enter the ring to congratulate Misaki because it would look rather small on the part of the Japanese internationally. And you would not see Misaki lecturing Silva after the fight. And if he got an illegal soccer kick, there would be much retaliation.

Upon review and a SINGLE picture frame, it looked like one of Akiyama's hands was still on the ground when Misaki kicked him. Furthermore, the kick looked to be at his shoulder which is legal. does that mean anything? can a korean achieve the same success in japan that a japanese can? obviously not. i agree that japan has a better work ethic, less poverty, and less crime etc. however, it is a very homogeneous society and is not very open. there are very deep, hidden problems there, like the very high student suicide rate, the bullying, and the culture that promotes misunderstanding instead of sorting things out (i find this a bad thing in my opinion, thats just my opinion though).

Akiyama got what he deserved, a cheater was cheated. Misaki showed him respect after the fight and I think Akiyama learned his lesson. Personally I respect Akiyama now because of his acceptance of Misaki's post fight speech. It's really silly though that this has been made into a racial issue. Enough people hate Japanese and Koreans, we shouldn't be fighting with each other (unless it's in a ring, cage or on a mat.)

Akiyama would destroy Misaki or Sakuraba 9 times out of 10, and is clearly the better striker and judoka. Good vid. Technically it's kicking a downed opponent. Kicking someone while in the process of getting up is usually associated with standup K-1. Akiyama was in a "downed" position.
