for me in fallout 3 i dont take dogmeat with me i keep him at my house in megaton youll find dogmeat at the scrapyard as he is being attacked by raiders. so i keep him at my house so he doesnt die but if he dies then you cante get him back if you load the last save you had him when he was alive
