  • Couldn't I just fill the jugs/bottles up with soil from my garden????

  • @Apidium Sure, whatever works for you!

  • wow. ive been looking for good deals on dumbbells. this seems like the best deal so far... lol

only thing, i feel like ill be missing out for some reason

  • Great solution!

  • I'm confused. If some one pays over $100 for a video program why would they use plastic jugs as weights

  • @katiemariepatton Because they just paid $100 (actually $120) for a video program. Dumbbells are not cheap.

  • There not dumbbells they are kettlebells looks like it... X/

  • @Ampersand1988 Very true. I made this before kettlebells were so popular.

  • U just said free then you said go to home depot and buy gravel or whatever. Lol

  • @iamDarkOutcast Lol. I did but the title includes "or cheap". They would be free if you already had rocks, gravel, or sand at your disposal.

  • @ZillaFitness oh woops my bad. but i do have some big rocks that i could use.

  • wow thanks!!

  • it gets the job done. enough said

  • Yeah, I'm one of many fatties trying to get into shape, and I've been using an old backpack and some hardcover textbooks. This would be better and more maneuverable! Thanks!

  • Thanks, because buying dumbbells on a college student budget is just way too much

  • Man this is great stuff. Detergent containers seem to be a great bet due to their solid build. I imagine milk jug handles tend to weaken after a while.

  • what we used to do for weights back home ..get an empty pot of paint and a steel or iron bar hanging around..stick the bar through the middle of the lids of the two pots of paint..mix some cement with sand and fill it into the empty pot of paint and stick the bar right in the middle and let it dry for a few days..then do the same for the other side of the barbell..once done u can then nail the lids with the pots of paint and Voila..the best thing is they never ever break or damage

  • How can you tell how heavy they r

  • i want to get some 80 lbs dumbells but there like $280 for a set!

  • @SSully31 find a gym thats going outa business. i picked up 20's thru 80's in 5lb increments from a school that closed down and they were selling the gym weights. I paid $600. BUT they are pro style commercial grade. you get what you pay for man. or you can go the prison route and fill fucking garabage bags with water and shit LMFAO!

  • I have been debating using textbooks in duffel bags for weights, or other options. I like the gallon jugs and detergent bottles. Way to go, Zilla, shout out to ya

  • Man thats awesome. Thanks for the tips ZILLA!!

  • YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SEVENDUST!!!!

  • Oh my god! THANK YOU! I'm poor and can't afford the necessary dumbbells and this is a great, cheap alternative. You have my most sincere thanks.

  • thank you so much :)

  • laundry detergent jug! good idea!

  • WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE THIS GUY... good work

  • the milk gallon doesnt have the right grip for men but the laundry bottle aint all the bad. it looksl like curls would be ok but doing a bench press workout with it might not be the best idea for heavy weights

  • I've just bought the p90x and wanted to know which training days of the P90x require dumbbells????

    Please help

  • @fortuna189 You will need dumbbells (or resistance bands) for these 6 workouts: Chest and Back, Shoulders and Arms, Legs and Back, Core Synergistics, Chest/Shoulders/Tris and Back and Biceps

  • you remind me of the Main guy in GEARS OF WAR 3

  • @sp1ic3 Ha ha. Not sure if that is good or bad?

  • GREAT video - added to "BOWFLEX FORUM"

  • great Idea =O was going to go buy a set but ill make my own now ^-^ ty!

  • i did this with 6 water bottles thanks!

  • wow Thanks A Lot man i appretiate da help

  • keep up the good work! Thanks!

  • Thank you for a great and inexpensive way to acquire dumbbells. I appreciate it.

  • not a bad idea!

  • Asian Lady needs to meet you lushfmlk.info

  • great idea. I like the fact that you can adjust them. Weights and benches can sometimes be acquired very cheaply at garage sales.

  • thanks man! great idea with the laundry detergent deal

  • Pretty smart idea, im gonna try this out.

    thanks!

  • Great idea!!

  • right on man. I think its awesome that you are showing people this alternative. Money isn't an excuse anymore ahah

  • kewl!!

    thanks a lot :D

  • This is awesome man! Thanks, keep up the great idea's. Hoping to see more from ya Zilla! YOUR ROCK! And cute little 3rd graders(: haha!(:

  • thanks bro

i am going to do this

  • i just tried the water bottle ones i dropped one and it exploded. i found two detergent bottles that said one gallaon they were different one wat smaller but the same capacityu i filled them up. one is 1 . 1 lb heavier so what i'll do is i'll inter changte them between excercises.

    thanx,

  • @bahamalesster Yeah, the water and milk jugs can be fragile. Nice solution in just alternating them.

  • i like this idea

how u paint them with spray paint and what kind or what u used

  • @royalkingace spray paint and a sharpie do wonders!

  • hey thanks verry much for posting this video its great for me

as im a student with not alot of money,

is there any way to stop the sand/graval shaking round?

  • @SCRSggIE If you add a little water it will help but not stop it completely. I actually like when it shifts and adds a little different resistance throughout the movements.

  • @ZillaFitness

thanks heaps your a great help

  • @SCRSggIE If you wet the gravel/sand it moves less. I actually like the movement, probably doesn't make much of a difference but I get the feeling that weight "follows" me through the movement.

  • @ZillaFitness the motion and moving of the sand/water/kitty litter or watever is in it, is actually better for stablizing muscles that you would not normally use

  • @chronicreaper Yes sir! That is why I kinda like the movement. You can really feel the difference.

  • dude freaking awesome idea! I've tried the bands as a less expensive option but they just don't work for me. Been toying around with the idea of buying a bowflex selecttech set of dumbbells but they're so expensive and so i've just ended up sitting around saying well i don't have dumbbells so i can't do the x until I do. Now I have an answer and can get back in there. THX alot!

  • will your arms b less cut as opposed to using metal dumbells?

  • how do you make it heavier?

I did a similar kind of way by using a milk carton, and filling it with dirt from my backyard, but it's only about 10 lbs.

What else can you use to make it heavier? something around the house where you don't have to buy gravel or something.

  • What's the maximum weight you can fill it up to if you fill up the whole gallon

  • @DabidJK It depends exactly what you are using but I made some that were 12lb that were only about 60% full. If you use the big laundry detergent ones you can really make them heavy.

  • @DabidJK It depends exactly what you use. I mad some 12 lb dumbbells and the jug was only about 65% filled. If you use the large laundry detergent jugs you can really jack them up.

  • how can you change the weight?

  • @UntouchableTAK I made several different ones but can add or subtract weight as needed.

  • If I fill it with rice and water will it still be heavy?

  • thanks so much....this will save me so much money considering i go through milk cartuns like "that" and i live on a gravel road....thank you again

  • they dont break though? then youll have your whole place filled with gravel

  • @gyshalom Every once in awhile they might spring a leak a small leak and a few pieces might fall out. Easy to replace or just repair with duct tape. The laundry soap bottles hold up much better. I have let the kids use them for 2 years with no problems.

  • Dude thanks so simple yet I never thought of this headed to garage right now to make me some thnxxx and I subscribed honestly thnx dude....

  • @prodson21 Very welcome!

  • thanks alot man

  • @THEDARKKNlGHT1939 No problem. If you want more fitness tools you can register for free on my website.

  • nice

  • great..cheap and recycle at once.

  • QUESTION!!!!!! for who ever can give me an answer. What would be a good amount for squats? I want it to be effective but know if too much weight is bad. Like.....to hold in front for butt exercises? Thanks in Advance!

  • nice job!

  • Great idea! I personally use the slightly more expensive alternative and got resistance bands (still way cheaper than weights) but regardless great initiative on this!

  • Thanks man! What a great idea. I used to train in Goju Ru where they use cement in a tin with a broom stick. Would love to see you try that out .

  • really good thx

  • hey but how will u know how much it exactly weigh.. good idea tho

  • @DeKharBachiya Just put in on a scale and keep filling until you reach the desired weight.

  • Hey Diddle Diddle the Mental Patient played the Fiddle made of Kleenex Box and Rubbr Bands while Zilla used some Old Jugs and made him a Filla while Pumping his Muscles he tended his Milla and with Brains and Brawn Saved and Sold and got Minted like Willa!

  • Weight sets are VERY expensive. The economy is BAD right now. This idea is a great idea and REALLY shouldn't have any negative responses below. Great job Coach Zilla...you keep inspiring others to get fit and healthy and those people will follow your lead.

  • I get the point, but who the hell wants a bunch of milk jugs filled with rocks and various other items sitting around their house like a mental patient? Do you store them next to your guitar made from a kleenex box and rubber bands?

  • @Diddle1414 @Diddle1414 I find it pretty sad that you find a way rip me for trying to find a way to help people make an inexpensive, yet positive change in their lives through health and fitness. If you don't like the idea you could have moved on but instead chose to leave this message..... seven times.

  • Actually, I see you replaced "f*ck" with "hell". Classy move.

  • @ZillaFitness That's OK Coach Zilla, not everyone really cares to help people that can't afford hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. I personally think that this is a great idea for someone on a tight budget. It's great that you use the weights with the kids at school too. At least we know there are still people out there who do care.

  • NIce video. Is there any good methods of permantly sealing the jugs, so they can be thrown down a lil bit, instead of having 2 be very careful?

  • I've used Gorilla Glue for that before but if you use the heavier duty bottles like laundry detergent with screw on caps, they should last quite awhile with some natural abuse.

  • I will try using your method, but I'll use small water/drink bottles and some rocks n dirt lol... i just want them to weight less that 10 pounds... I am gonna start doing the P90X this week, let see if i can get rid off this belly hahaha

  • Whatever works!! Good luck. Pace yourself the first week, you will be crazy sore but it gets better fast. Would love to be your official coach if you don't have one yet. You can join for free on my site. Bring it!

  • brilliant

  • Good shit man!!!! And to think, I was about to spend 'bout a few hundred bucks for a few set of dumb-bells.

  • Cool. I've found that the 1-gallon Arizona tea (diet of course) jugs filled with kitty litter work the best. Try it. You can even wet the kitty letter for more weight.

  • Nice! Great idea. Being severely under-employed I might have to give this a shot.

  • When you talk it reminds me of Jesse Ventura.

  • LOL. I've been quoted him from Predator since I read your comment.

  • 5 stars for child labor!

  • uhm this is a good idea but i really hurt my wrist doing this

  • Water dont work?

  • if it was water the plastic would bend more. the dirt keeps it from moving around

  • oh okay makes sense

  • @killer66667 It would, be the centre of mass would constantly be moving around unless you filled it up right to the top. Would make it awkward... liquid would also evaporate, but that's being a bit pedantic.

  • Awesome idea, Chad!!!

  • hey, cool video. If you would like to get this video more exposure I use thetubeviews . [com], you should check them out sometime
