After I found this I watched the entire video. This concert was the same year I started college, where I eventually learned cinema verite from Ricky Leacock. I was surprised at the intimacy and intensity on the stage that this film captured: the bright lights delineating a treehouse club atmosphere, Leon Russell's stage presence a winsome Pan / mischevious Puck overseeing the energy of the performance; killer timing with the vocals even when, "you put it on the...fish to catch the bayou." :)

Yes Doug does kick ass he opened up for the rolling stones in 1978! First it was Doug Kershaw then Peter Tosh and Peter Tosh was booed off stage. Then when the rolling stones played... Doug joined in on the song "Far away eyes"

this song was probably written in the 1920's. It wasn't that Leon and Waylon didn't get along, everybody was drunk/stoned and it looks to me like Leon thought Waylon butted in on Leon's singing. Leon has a glare that could set you on fire. Men think only us women can give "the look" but Leon can and does.

This was the last day and the last set of a long 3 day concert.. everyone was drunk and more... What a concert.. this was willies answer to woodstock for the slightly redneck... There was willie..waylon...leon.. doug kershaw..micheal murphy...jimmy buffett.ricky nelson...asleep at the wheel even david carridine (kung fu) had a 3 piece band.and many many more they had 2 stages that slid back and forth 10am to 10pm music all day them a camp ground across the hwy.

Those good ol days were preceded by a time of corporate control themselves. The rise of rock in the 50's meant country labels kept a tight leash on their product giving us mellow work of Jim Reeves and Eddie Arnold. The backlash (outlaw movement) started when Waylon with agent Neil Reshen convinced Chet Atkins to let him do his thing. The rest is history.
