  • Are you like supposed to let your arms strech between pulls, I mean like go all the way down then all the way up?

  • Also, I don't see the big deal with pull-ups. What's so hard? Do sets every other day! I started with 8, then, for reasons I seriously CAN'T explain I couldn't even do 3...I started doing sets and I hopped back up to 8 in about two weeks. It's just sets. Max out your sets and rest 30 seconds in between, non-stop, until you can't can't lift your chin, then rest for a half an hour to an hour. Do this every other day and do Lat-pull-downs at your own body weight. You'll get there in no time.

  • I'm PISSED off that this Marine stepped into my recruiters office yesterday...now he was a cool guy, ultra moto and fresh out of boot-camp, awaiting MCT, (the pog that he is) I think he had RA because he said he'd been back from boot for about 3 weeks. This lack luster sonuvabitch had the audacity to do THREE pull-ups on the pull-up bar...saying he graduated boot with ten. 10! Apparantly this Marine decided to spend his 3 week NOT PTing...I know a poolee who does 25 dead-hangs. 25.. fucking nuts

  • Damn bro thats great im like 5'7" and way 195 right now ill be going into bootcamp in bout OCT. so I still got some time but I can only do up to ten dead hangs right now, im tryin to lose weight and buil the muscle in my back shoulders and arms right now to try to improve my dead hangs. Hopefully I can do this by that time because I wanna pull rank feel me USMC SEMPER FI TILL I DIE!

  • yea, you definitely have to cut that. Once you lose some fat, and weigh less your PFT score overall will increase

  • probably like 24:00. I can sprint, but long distances (lol 3 miles) are terrible for me. tendonitis in both knees.

  • Yea, it doesn't matter too much, you would still score a high PFT with 20 pullups though. Tendonitis could be a bitch as well I'm at 15, 100, and 19:50 right now, and we both score the same which is like 264. Pull-ups are money.

  • I commented this to someone else a while ago. "For pulling strength ALONE, bent over barbell rows, seated cable rows, lat pulldowns, close, medium, and wide grip pull ups with palms either facing or away, and power cleans are good too. And of course, more pull ups." Use strength sets (5-6reps) and endurance sets (15-25reps). Vary your workout every 1-3 weeks. I've gone from 20-35 pull ups in a year or so.. not great, but I'm not trying to set any records.

It's not Marine Corps policy to trash people that try to better themselves. In fact, thats exactly what the USMC looks for, people who go above and beyond and aspire to be better. Why do you think some people graduate MCRD as LCpls? High PFT's, excellent display of leadership, helping out recruiters, etc.

  • The PFT is max pull ups from a dead hang (20 max), 3 minute run in under 28 min (18min max score), and crunches in 2 min (100 max).

  • I think it's a 135 which is a third class PFT score.

  • Do all the stuff he said, and if you don't readily have access to workout equipment. Juts get a pullup bar in your house and try to knock out 50 to 100 pull-ups day. I went from 0 to around 15 that way in about three months. On the PFT, pull-ups count the most so doing 20 is going to boost you're score.

  • Thats cool. Over here for our Royal Marines Commando's its 35 pull ups, to the PTI's pace so that means slow on the up and slow and steady on the down for 100% score. We also have the 1.5 mile run in 9 minutes or less and the 30 miler carrying 80lbs of bergen kit (thats not including weapon and webbing..which you call belt order i believe). Pretty greulling.

    Sounds badass dude... I know for a fact most of you guys are probably harder than we are over here. You've got the smaller force and are more focused... even the corps here, which is small compared to the rest of the dept of defense, is pretty big and bloated..

    I've known how tough you guys are over there, for a while now. Your training is pretty impressive.

  • No its Royal Marines Commando's as a whole. That is the unit itself as a whole. Though we have the AMWC or Arctic and Mountani Warfare Cadre and Brigade Patrol Troop, Commachio etc within the Royal Marines Commando's that are even more specialised..then of course SBS but hteir on a whole different level to us haha.
