The American Gary Moore. That's how you play blues! 2 of my heroes gone. No-one (apart from SRV and 60's Clapton) played with such fire and intensity. Such a shame. What a legacy though.
I hadn't watched this in a while and was hammered yet again by it's brilliance.The band assembled behind Jeff are each, as individuals powerhouses and they gel together as well as Booker.T And The M,Gs Jeff is,well fuck, this performance is mindboggling, nuff said.
After watching this, I looked over at my guitar, and it told me "DON'T YOU EVEN..." lol simply put, the man can freaking play. Very few guitarists can match the sort of playing that Jeff Healey was on. He played with so much passion and emotion, you could literally feel it. Gives me goosebumps every time. RIP Jeff. You are sorely missed.
There are a few of these same videos floating around and everyone seems to want to know the same thing. "Who is on drums"? WHO GIVES A SHIT!!!! Omar,,,,,,Steve,,,,,Big Bird,,,,,,Wiley Coyote,,,,,Martin Luther King!!
Maybe, but that's Omar. If his face, sound and drumming style are not enough, Steve Jordan is a Yamaha drums endorser since the 80's. And Omar has been a Pearl endorser for decades. You can see a Pearl kit there. Just trying to help.
@payuki I'm not an expert on either drummer, so I'll take your word for it.
In fact, there's another video on youtube of this exact same footage, where the title of the video states that it's Jordan, so the uploader of that video (SzalonyJogurt) obviously got that wrong.
I was a fan of Healey before this show so I stayed up to watch it....Magical!!! The best part was when Marcus and Omar REALLY starting laying it down and got into the thrill of the music.....Now THATS what music is about!
the show was called "Night Music" and was hosted by David Sanborn. It ran in the late 1980's and only lasted 1 season. Probably something to do with it being a show run by musicians for musicians. i saw Jeff in Omaha in the early 90's and he rocked!! THANKS FOR POSTING!!
didnt they (dunno who) or Frank Zappa refer to his hands as being like a "spider"?. Well.....I think Mr Healey's hands are much more spider-like........man..this absolutely blows me away every time I watch it!!
Who's show was this and when? I saw another clip shows David Sanborn introduce him, it looks like, though that's my educated guess as a music fan. This is the better quality of the two however, not as long
Before he was jeff healey band ,prob about 1976 i seen him at the Kingdom Of Rock And Roll in Windsor ,ontario , Buy he called the band Blind man's bluff . True Story .
when I first saw this video I was very impressed by this guy, the blind and those with a guitar doing something, something extraordinary. pity that the deceased was not one to beat, no?
The first time I saw Jeff Healy was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson which I have on VHS somewhere. When he stood up at the end of this song he knocked over his chair. Johnny stood up concerned for his guest but Jeff took it all in stride and finished the song. I went to the music store the next day and got the CD. I just wish someone would post a live version of Blue Jean Blues. Thank You So Much For The Post.
LOL. at 4:38 Marcus has to look over and see what the F is going on. This boy is messed up for sure.WOW that guitar is straight in the amp with no effects just PURE talent.best video I ever saw
"yeah, and i thought you'd be bigger" for those of you who dont know that's a quote from Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze and Jeff Healey so you can quit the thumbs down
Not to sound like a total dick, but I just wanna know what that means! Cause by the look of the rating you got for it, it seems everyone agrees with you!
and the fact that he was blind? haha, nah im kidding i get ya, his phrasing is BLISTERING, when he starts tearing up that solo it makes me want start breaking things with excitement
not only an inspiration but an amazing guitar player. Jeff Healey was truly one of the best and will hopefully be remembered forever as such... Great video!
notice at the beginning is says "Jeff Heavy"? But anyways great great song... i have heard all jeff healey song's on album and this is one of my faves

We know who the bassist and pianist are (Marcus Miller and Dr. John), but who's the drummer?
Some poeple think it's Steve Jordan, some people think it's Omar Hakim.

@athull08 Omar Hakim

3:46 lol, how does he keep hold of it??!!
athull08 9 months ago
I've often wondered why he plays that way.
There's no reason why a blind person can't play guitar the usual way.
Maybe it's more to do with the age at which he started playing.
He was only 3, so maybe the guitar he had was too big for him to play the usual way.
athull08 9 months ago
@athull08 One thing i have heard is that he started playing piano first so that's what he was used to
nick14orange 9 months ago
@nick14orange that sounds quite plausible.
