Nothing funnier than people who criticize such a sacred work without considering it's relevance to the culture it derived from, such a display of ignorance and an obvious hostility toward people of faith. It's more logical to assume that he was being punished for disobeying the written law that he was supposed to knock up his brother's wife than disobeying the unwritten law that you aren't supposed to beat the meat into the ground, because you might get the earth pregnant, and then we would have two moons--Can you imagine how many people would die due to the tidal patterns?
It only takes a little reading into the passage to come up with the idea that condoms are evil; it takes far less reading into the context to come up with the idea that this no longer applies, as non-Jewish brothers aren't under the Mosaic law that they have to impregnate their dead brother's wife . . . I'd think that law would lead a good number of people to kill some of their brothers.
