The reason why we spend so much money is because costs are high. A major cause of the high cost is due to FDA regulation. Remember when people were going to Canada to get cheaper medicine? Pills are a healthcare expenditure.
I agree with you that certain idiosyncrasies within a society might alter the expected life expectancy rates... But you'd be a fool not to realize that the high cost (hence lower number of insured) has more to do with administration costs bordering on 10-15% compared to the gov'ts great track record of only 3%... When it comes to health, I'd like every dollar that can be spent on health, not on fancy cherrywood desks and new hottubs.

As for his being locked in his office, they could have been referencing the period during or after his Mother's death of cancer or during the months he has been facing his father's extreme health issues. Some people are not the type to be the life of the party when people they love are surffering.

It's mind boggling how all these crazy communist/birther accusations get so much airtime, yet the constitutional violations committed by the Bush administration are hardly talked about by anyone other than Maddow/Olberman.
Thom Hartmann is one of the few other commentators I think is credible. You might want to look up his radio show or webcast if you ever get the chance.

I can't really take issue with your assessments of the two of them, but Maddow has definitely shown a little more guts in the past about pointing out Obama's flaws.
The most important issues always seem to fly under the radar. Such is the fate of corporate-controlled news. There's still a lot of questionable policies and behavior that Obama is continuing from the Bush administration.
I'm still waiting for that change I can believe in to come along...

I trust this administration even less though. There is footage of Obama claiming to want a single payer system. It's obvious to me that the intent of this public option is to get the foot in the door so that universal health care can be implemented

Healthcare is not the only thing that affects life expectancy. Things like crime and even culture can affect life expectancy.
The reason why we spend so much money is because costs are high. A major cause of the high cost is due to FDA regulation. Remember when people were going to Canada to get cheaper medicine? Pills are a healthcare expenditure.

I agree with you that certain idiosyncrasies within a society might alter the expected life expectancy rates... But you'd be a fool not to realize that the high cost (hence lower number of insured) has more to do with administration costs bordering on 10-15% compared to the gov'ts great track record of only 3%... When it comes to health, I'd like every dollar that can be spent on health, not on fancy cherrywood desks and new hottubs.

Government workers get paid quite well. They also would be much more indifferent to fraud because no one has a problem giving out public money.
One of the big problems with the public option is that it will let already sick people in. That's on the same level of letting someone get car insurance AFTER they got into a car accident and paying for repairs. How can the public option viably do this?

Look, we spend a gajillion times more (yes, I'm exaggerating, but only a little bit) on F-22 bombers that we don't even use anymore (it's just to keep the industry going)...
If we took like 1% of that budget, it'd probably cover all the "already sick" as you refer to...

Government workers, specially government management, wouldn´t have an incentive to commit fraud, unlike private insurers, whose sole motivation is profit.
Of course they would let in people with preexisting illness, thats the whole point. Imagine your chid gets a life threatening illness, and your insurance wont cover it. No other insurance company would let you in, because of preexisting condition. Your child dies, because you dont have money. That´s freedom for you?

Btw, it seems you agree that costs are too high to be sustainable in the future (100% increase in avg premium in 10 years? PUH-LEEZE try to spin THAT one LOL) And it goes back to the lack of competition... Insurance companies (like many other industries) have unwittingly formed a "fiscal pact" that keeps rates high with slight variation so as to fool the consumer into thinking these are competitive rates (again, lol)

I do not support monopolies in any way, shape, or form. If they arise and cause problems, they should be dealt with. I simply do not believe that public options are the appropriate method of doing so

C'mon, this is the FDA we're talking about here, bought and paid for by Big Pharma... If anything, they UNDER-regulate! How is it that they're telling people to use Chantix to quit when it's caused hundreds of PROVEN cases of suicides while trying to ban E-cigarettes (no deaths/suicides/health incidents in 3 years) on the other?
Frivolous lawsuits I can agree that they add an unnecessary burden to the insurers, but that would hardly reduce their exorbitant administrative costs.
