@JoshuaDaPeck 100% true. god knows i would never chrono with trash ammo like that... besides, using such low weight bbs would make it shoot like 500fps, not under 400.
I am considering doing this but I am kinda scard to open the gearbox for the first time, but this is my question . . . How do a get into a G&G V.2 Blowback gearbox?
can a stock piston like one in a dboys or jg, handle removing the material or will it break? wasn't sure if a higher grade piston was needed to do this.
this mod will cause an increase in FPS by making the piston lighter so that spring will propel it faster, correct? Makes sense to me.
Question,
What size holes do you recommend? I haven't chronoed my DMR yet and I'm hoping to increase the FPS for nothing if needed. I should know by the 1st. of this month.
@iCreateDuctTapeStuff assuming you mean without the single metal tooth at the front of the piston, probably less than a magazine. that single tooth takes the most abuse.
@1Paintballer that specific piston actually stripped on my about two weeks about, but that was because i had it shooting at about 25rps on an m120 spring. i have not had a piston fail because of swiss cheesing.
@ASTKilo23 So, say I swiss-cheesed piston, if I'm not using it on a high ROF setup (Mine shouldn't be more than 12-15 RPS), think it will hold up or no?
@terriost24 The piston has teeth, which is meshed with the gears. When you shoot the gun, the gears pull it back and compress the spring behind it. When it releases, the spring pushes the piston forward, and the piston head creates an air seal in the cylinder, so it pushes all the air out of the air nozzle, thus propelling the BB.
You think doing this to a completely stock AMG L96 would do wonders? Especially for someone who has no money for like a month? Oh, and don't worry, it'll definitely be a temporary thing until I get more money. Any ways, thanks in advanced for any help.
do you have a video about AOE? im setting my 249 for a high ROF and i need to know more about preventing my piston from stripping, just want to let you know i live in Ireland so we have soft springs in here ie. 328fps is the limit, my 249 is with a standard ratio gear, 8mm bearing bushing, 11.1 2800mah 25C lipo and now im gonna use my 'swissed piston' with it (thanks for the video btw) i know a bit about AOE but maybe you can add more info oh and btw ive shaved the 2nd and 3rd tooth already :)
@giansantiago i actually do not, sorry. its really not that hard to correct. just put *small* washers between the piston and piston head to add space.
@miguelacaballero19 you cannot really think of a piston taking a certain fps. that is determined by sever factors. the spring is what puts stress on the piston. i would say this pistons limits is about an m130 or m140 spring.
Wow, that is some jump for such little work and quite a cheap part to replace if someone messes it up.
It would also seem possible to do each hole individual or change the drill diameter in stages to really fine tune the fps for those that need to stick to a fps boundary.
I'm not sure but I think that thus the piston is lighter, the spring can accelerate the piston faster, creating higher air pressure, so that's why it adds some fps. I was surprised too, at first I thought that you are going to show how this affects on ROF, I couldn't imagine this affecting FPS :D.
lol i want the airsoftgi custom combat machines. for around 200 bucks you get so much (metal rails, flip up sights, crane stock, and some sort of new outer barrel)
@ASTKilo23 Thanks for doing the video i requested. But i was really surprised that the fps went up that much. Did you do anything else after you installed the swiss piston?
@blackhawk42x the piston is lighter after you swiss cheese it. a light mass will move faster under the same conditions. it just like if you installed an aluminum piston, the fps would decrease because the piston is heavier and not compressing the air in the piston as quickly.
I feel like this would've been done better if you had better compression on that thing. REALLY inconsistent ratings.

@cjbh1996 the gun is actually shooting pretty consistently. it is the chrono that sucks. i took it to the local shop to double check.

@DeadSilent120 yes, that is correct. but it is not the size of the holes that matters. it is how much material you remove from the piston.
