I believe that you are referring to the Depth of Field Preview button, at he base of the lens. My surprise, there, was that while you do see the Depth of View Preview through the lens, if by any chance you have the flash up when you press it, then a stroboscopic light comes out of the flash to illuminate the Depth of Field Preview scene. That's cool!
@danpro2002 actually your statement is incorrect. This function is present on the D90 (i have both models) and it's actually the modeling flash. It will trigger whenever the flash is raised (even if the aperture is wide open) so you would preview shadows and highlights as you'll see them after you take the picture using the flash. You can deactivate this in the menu. The DOF Preview seconds as a Flash Preview.
What a great kitchen. First thing I noticed. The lighting, colors etc are stunning. Never thought green would be a good color but this proves me wrong.
I have to tell you, after less than a minute watching this, I had to stop it. The horrid sound of that mic sucks. It has only low freq pickup it seems. Everything is bassy and hard to understand you without adjusting the bass on my speakers.
DigitalRev has amazing audio that i would compair to if you can. Good luck!
Another feature is the ability to map a three exposure burst to the depth of field button. If you want to shoot three bracketed shots quickly you hold the depth of field button down as you shoot and the D7000 shoots three shots very quickly and i think with the mirror up
@denisdf D7000...if you add extra $700 you can get the D700. its full frame and uses the same sensor of the D3s, in addition it has a built in flash and auto sensor cleaning. Both options that the D3 don't have. Out of the box its 5 frames per second, but you can tweak it to give you 8 frames per second in ( jpeg fine) without using the battery grip
Thank you for the nice comment about the kitchen. We completed its renovation in April 2010 and are quite happy with the brightly colored modern materials. I'll try to show more in an upcoming video!
The quiet is not similar to the bulb mode: the exposure is done based on the camera's exposure meeter, independently of the time that you hold the shutter button. As you press the shutter button, the mirro flips up in such a way as to minimize noise; the exposure is then taken; only when you release the shutter button will the mirror go back down.
It's always nice identify added value to the camera's we purchase. I also like the ability to reprogam the depth of field button. I've changed mine to trigger the viewfinder virtual horizon. It helps me make sure my compositions are level with out taking my eye of the viewfinder.
@randytate Yep! As you say, it should have been there long ago, as this is relatively simple for a processor to do.... I guess it was to keep a hiearchy in the features, between the less costly and the professional cameras? Thanks for your attention. Daniel
The flash works the same way on D90. It has nothing to do with f-number, it's just a modeling light that you activate by pressing that button :-) while your flash is up.
The modelling flash doesn't sound very good. I'm leaving it off lol!

In the D80, the flash going off in Depth of Field preview is known as the Modeling flash. I tended to turn that off.

____4 things to look for when buying a camera_______
1. Low noise
2. Mirror lockup
3. Field of depth Preview button
4. A E B
If you have these 4 options you will be happy with ur camera, and wont bother replacing it anytime soon...

isnt the quiet mode just the same as having it on bulb shutter mode?

Thanks, the IR sensor on the back will sure be nice as I'm always having to reach around the front of my D40 when using the remote!

So the D7000 has a built-in intervelometer? This is something that manufacturers should have put in camera's years ago. That's pretty cool.
