  • How long did it take the speaker to write his speech? Speak from your heart, not from your mind - you are a monster.

  • I would really want to see all these people voluntarily go through ONE single experiment usually done on animals, living in a lab with monkeys, dogs and rats until the experiment is over. And then after it I'd like to see them in these pro-torture protests again :)

  • @dudtube

Thank you very much for your well-said words.

These researchers work for very bad ideas. And they have no imagination which pain their experiments cause.

  • @dudtube the animals are used to save lives. UCLA is one of the many institutions in the US that follow the three R's.

Refinement:minimize pain (stress affects the research)

Replacement: in vitro, computer modeling, MRI scanning, micro dosing

Reduction: better design the experiments because it is expensive

without animal testing, america could still be in the dark

AIDs would be a death sentence, infected wounds would result in amputations.

  • @ohaierick nice three R's, but i'd rather support just one R, and you know which.

the animals don't have to pay with their integrity, freedom and lives for OUR diseases.

  • Well done UCLA Pro-Test.

Don't let you push around by these cowards, who are against tests on animals.

The scientific progress and the saving of human life is much more important than the lifes of some animals.

    Pro Testing!

  • 1. I am against violence.

    2. But it is violence too, if you torture an animal.

So: If these "researchers" are against violence, why do they TORTURE animals?

    3. I believe, that researchers NEEDN'T use animals to find medicine against diseases of humans.

  • @natija08 Oh please, and like the rest of the P.E.T.A. twits you're probably pro-choice. The researchers have to test medicines on mammals with similar body chemistry as us. A rat is not equal to a human.

  • @EricShermansChannel

I'm not a PETA-member, but I support their protest against your cruel experiments on animals. I'm against violence - violence against humans AND violence against animals.

In my opinion researchers should try to find out the REASONS of diseases in order to prevent.

You shouldn't do the cruel job for some ambitious professors who want to earn fame and the pharmaceutical industry.

Rats feel pain as you do! Would you like to be a rat in your lab?

  • @natija08 rmber one rat saved 1million lives through research. or else half of us would not be alive.

  • @ryushinn

And again: Would you want to be a rat in your lab?

Rats have the same right to live as humans do.

We should stop being cruel to animals and begin a new life without violation.

Search for methods to prevent diseases, please.

I found a good way to avoid illness: a vegan diet with a great part of raw food.

Plus: For every disease there can be found a plant medicine.

  • @natija08 being a vegan is not balance, balance is the best way to be healthy. eating both meat and veggies. if i had to be a rat to save millions of peoples life yes i would be a rat, so technically vegetables are living things so should they not have the same rights as animals and humans? its thanks to animal experiment's you are alive today, people like you treat animals like humans which is wrong, its almost to the point where its sickening

  • @ryushinn - part 1

If you think, it is healthy to eat meat, so tell me, why are so many meat eaters so very ill?

I didn't eat any piece of meat for now more than 20 years. My last check up at the doctors this year showed that everything is absolutely o.k.

Do you have an answer? Mustn't I be very ill - without meat for more than 20 years?

If you are REALLY concerned about plants, why do you eat animals? Don't you know that animals eat plants?

  • @natija08 you people make me sick why don't you cry about the bacteria your killing with each stroke as you type on your computer, each stride you walk your killing millions or billions of micro-organism's, the clothes you wear animals and insects were probably harmed in order to get your threads on your clothes, you probably killed a ant and not even notice it, shit you should just cry about the ticks and bed bugs in ur bed since you are crushing them when you sleep.

  • @ryushinn

    1. I don't have any bed bugs in my bed.

    2. I wear clothes made from cotton, no wool or leather and I seldom buy a new piece of clothes. I live a frugal life.

    3. bacteria don't have any nerves. They don't feel pain. The vertebrates you use in experiments have nerves and feel a lot of pain.

You probably don't believe in God and you have no ethic ideas I suppose.

  • @ryushinn - part 2

So if you eat animals, you eat much more plants than I, the plants the animals were fed with.

Which treatment of animals is o.k. for you? Do you treat animals as trash or as a piece of plastic? Do you really think, animals don't feel pain? Do you think, they don't suffer a lot in cruel experiments? Don't you hear them cry when you hit them? Don't you see the fear in their eyes, when you take them out of their cages?

Have mercy for the animals. They did you no harm.

  • @natija08 lol, animals are animals you people personify animals to the point where they are almost equal to humans you probably would kill a human just to save a animal. so many meat eaters are ill because they eat meat that has been modified, yes im not goign to say no that most meat eaters are ill but thats only in North America, since we tend to eat everything at a larger portion then everyone else in the world. i dont give a fuck if 1 animal dies, i will if an entire spieces is tho,

  • @ryushinn

I think you know, that animals can feel pain. They can suffer.

So why do you want to be responsible to increase the rate of suffering in the world?

I believe that we should do our best to reduce suffering of every living being.

Do you know the Indian word "ahimsa"? I try to follow this idea.

For me this world is a gift full of beautiful living beings which we should preserve, from the caterpillar to the elephant, from the daisy to the sequoia.

  • What a bunch of idiotic tools... They deserve the same torture that they perform on the animals.. idiots...

  • Scientists like these saved my life.

  • I am among the millions of those who would be dead without this valuable research. Go science! Go Pro-Test!

  • Many drugs approved for human use based on animal studies have had to be taken off the market at a later date because of side effects not revealed in animal studies. Drugs that pass animal tests end up harming or killing humans about 61% of the time. Animals and humans are very different physiologically, metabolically, anatomically, genetically & psychologically. Rodents deposit plaque (fatty acids) in the liver, while humans deposit plaque in the blood vessels.

  • ^ All of the "OMG animals r 2 differentz to test on!11" crap has been debunked.

Go to SpeakingOfResearch(dot)org and look under the "Bad Science" tab.

  • Wow way to show only one side. Now I know not to attend UCLA if I ever wat to go into journalism

  • why has david jentch continually turned down a sit-down debate with animals rights leaders on the the +'s & -'s of animal research?

  • the scientists and their supporters had the animal rights extremists outnumbered by at least a factor of 10. That tells you something, that is, if you are capable of gathering and interpreting data.

  • you forgot to count the animal rights activists and the animal rights supporters.

that tells me all about your ability in gathering & interpreting data.

  • same same. Fight for science! Fight for progress! Pro-Test, Pro-Test, Pro-Test !!!

  • with all due respect to your opinion and your right for it to differ from mine, and in no way would i ever want to change your mind,( i'd feel safer if you did that on your own) could i ask you how you feel that animal testing saved your life? sincerly

  • I have juvenile onset diabetes. Thanks to research on fish and dogs, scientists learned about insulin and how it functions in the body relative to blood sugar levels. As a child, I survived thanks to the insulin that scientists extracted from pigs. Its not a feeling. Its a fact - animal research saved my life.

  • because of research on animals your life was saved, but your disease not cured, just a treatment that has made you dependent on pharmacueticals in which you pay $ on a daily basis, if sceintist would have spent their time on stem cell research insted of this perverted animal research you would have been cured & not exploited.

  • well, I am all in favor of stem cell research, but when I was a kid this was not an option. If you had your way back in 1981, I would be dead. Today, scientists should be able to choose how to best accomplish their work - animal testing, stem cells, computer models, etc.

  • thanx for taking the time to debate

what is for you clearly a life or death issue.

But take consideration that my way

is in no way mine alone and that it is a way that takes into consideration animal life, the physical & mental health of human life, ecology, the earth and corperations who profit at the expense

of treating disease as opposed to curing them and many other issues that go far beyond personal preservation in a day & age where no living creature should suffer

    at anothers expense

  • Ok. How far do you take your beliefs? Imagine the possibility that a team of hard working scientists could save your child's life by experimenting on an earthworm. Would you change your mind in such a case, or would you let your child die to save the worm?

  • now your gettin a little silly, I support the A.L.F. not the carrot liberation front.

my reply would have to be in the form of a question. How smart does a creature have to be before killing it is considered murder?

  • to me it has nothing to do with how smart a creature is. Killing a human being is murder, killing anything else is not.

Why is my question so absurd? Is an earthworm too simple? How about a fish? Would you trade the life of a fish for your child's life?

  • hypothetical kids? What an ASSumption! Where's the scientific proof that research on lab animals has any correlation to humans? I happen to value the earthworm more than people cuz it's @ least making the world a better place every day in its small way.

  • the research is everywhere. See the discussion below. I, and millions of others, would be dead without animal research. You value a worm more than people? Surely you cannot be serious. If so, you are another prime illustration of the extreme moral confusion that seems to infect the animal rights movement.

  • i read ALL comments here b4 chiming n & my question / assertion remains the same-- don't believe the hype. Animals are much more productive members of planet Earth than destructive humans. See ya @ the FEMA camps!

  • They're only more "productive" because they are not intelligent enough to not get eaten by other animals, or alter their environment to live more comfortably. If lions were smart enough to raise gazelles, they would. Trust me.

Also, if the Earth and its animals are so super awesome and humans are big bad meanies, why do you not go live in the forest amongst the things you love so much? Why do you continue to live and contribute to a society you hate?

  • u lack that big picture perspective that physicists & philosophers call Wholistic + u deny the implicate order. Sad how ignorant y'all are for believing animal testing is relevant to humans. Surely there's enough population available to test on the species for which the "benefits" may be applicable. Volunteers?

  • how is it not relevent? Don't we use them for testing? To claim there is no positive effect is clearly not logical. Unless you think trading worms for people is not positive then, yes, you're right.

  • Do you take offense at a house cat who tortures a mouse or bird for fun? What about chickens who peck (and eat) their flock mates to death for getting a small cut, or simply because they are bored? What about weasels and foxes who will decimate a whole flock of chickens even though they only eat one bird? I mean, no living creature should suffer for another's enjoyment.

  • Its not like they have to divide their time between stem cells or animal testing. Different scientists focus on different avenues. And (adult) stem cells have been used for years to treat diseases, and new cures are currently being developed.

And are you trying to say its better to be dead than spend money on medication? I take it you never take any medicine when you're sick then. I mean, you're just going to die eventually anyways. Think of how much you'd reduce your carbon footprint!

  • just like 'misery loves company'

the same is true when the guilty

seek supporters to share their guilt with.

  • I and millions of others are alive thanks to the scientists who study animals to save human (and animal) lives. Go Pro-Test!

  • you have been exploited by the greatest science known to man. The Science of Exploitation. The $ you spend and the lives you destroy to extend your own is a result of the guilt youve accumulated living a life with no respect for other living creatures and your fear of the fate that death holds for you. Why support those who exploit you when you can support those with no voice? You Pay for Guilt !

    I Free the Innocent !

  • wrong. Animal rights extremists commit violent acts against humans. The result? Less science, less progress, more death and suffering for both humans and animals. ANIMAL RESEARCH SAVED MY LIFE!

  • 700 faculty & students on a campus in which 50,000 people can be found on any givin day speaks for itself.

  • You support "bad" things too just by living in human society. Everytime you buy a peice of synthetic clothing, you're supporting the drilling of land for oil. Everytime you buy something from the store, you're helping pay the employees who probably eat meat and use medications tested on animals; giving them money to further spend on "animal cruelty."

If the Earth and its animals are better than people, please, go out and live in the woods.

  • why did pro-test have their rally on earth day? why? Why? WHY? i figure you to be qualified to answer that since your comment above makes about as much sense as a one-legged punter

  • Coincidence - it was aimed to coincide with the animal rights demonstration.

  • Whose to say u deserve the privilege of life more than another? From what you've shared here it's apparent that your family lacks consideration. That is to say, you are only making the eugenics case for abortion.

  • well I'm glad its not your privilege. Lucky for us, human civilization has always figured out that human lives are more valuable to us than animal lives. Thats why we eat them, have them as pets, wear them, and use them for medical research. Don't talk about my family.

  • Are there any specific examples of extreme cruelty to animals in the scientific community that would have rightly gained scorn from animal rights activists?

  • Wow, blowing up cars over animals?

But I guess, in order to poke and prod, do the ends justify the means? Just because good has come from animal testing, does that mean that testing on animals is justified?

I would say it is, so long as the animals are treated more or less properly and not in a way that allows the researchers to simply torture and observe. I don't believe this is what they do anyway, lab rats seem fairly well treated in the experiments I've seen.

  • There are very well-defined rules of ethics for animal testing and most animal research must be approved first by a governing board/committee. Animals are NOT subjected to unnecessary cruelty.

And the end DEFINITELY justifies the means. Without animal testing there's a good chance YOU wouldn't be alive, or if you were alive you wouldn't be healthy.

  • the ends most certainly justify the means in this case. It not like these scientists sacrifice one animal life for one human life. Rather, the several dogs who enabled scientists to learn about insulin and diabetes have saved my life, and the life of millions of other people.

  • i love UCLA :) people there are amazing :)

    cant wait until i go

  • go science! go progress! go Pro-Test!
