@Snowintosh Stick with the myTouch 4G. The N1 is a good phone, but almost a year old, there are many more advanced phones out there.

@cowalskibre I have not had much luck with battery saving apps, most just cause more battery to be used by running them. Google has stated that Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be a more "green" build so hopefully the battery life extends.
