Laci, I like your idea of separating marriage from the function of the "STATE". In the secular world, all marriages would be legally a "common union". Gay people could also "common union" and all would be equal in the eyes of the law. That way, gay people get all the same legal rights and privileges as straight couples yet, the word "Marriage" retains the meaning of whatever the religious want it to be. I think that is a brilliant idea.

I am distraught at the disproportionate number of minorities who are devoutly religious. As for 'black' people, I feel that free higher education opportunities (akin to Native Americans) should be implemented at taxpayers making more than 400K/annum.

You still get 2 more years of young people in 2010... Plus, legalization in places like Iowa probably help convince some of the older generations as well. On the other hand you have some individuals who simply vote no to any amendment or initiative, so that might make the hurdle slightly harder to overcome.. OTOH some might view legal gay marriage somewhat as the status-quo as some are already married... Anyhow, I say give it a go in 2010! If it fails try again until it passes.

The way I see it, a constitution, whether that be for a country or for a state, is supposed to limit government. Almost every amendment in the bill of rights is about limiting government, not citizens and the two (or three if you include the repealed 18th ammendment banning alcohol) that DO have to do with limiting citizens should not be there in the constitution. As to whether it's natural, hundreds of species have observable homosexual behavior. Things that occur in the natural world without human intervention are (by definition) natural, are they not?

Not Really. Just because a species CAN produce homosexuals, doesn't mean it's supposed to. No matter what area of nature you look into, you will see male and female. Even in plants. This balance is what allows any species to continue and reproduce and grow to abundance. What would happen if suddenly all ducks were born gay? There would be no more ducks within just a few years. they would wipe out their own species. Homosexuality is not natural.. even if ppl think it's ok.

Sorry to correct you, but you're deriving intent where there isn't any. "supposed to"? Nature is what is. I think we're having an issue of definitions here. I'm going with "natural = occuring in nature without human intervention". If homosexuality occurs without human intervention, it's natural, regardless of how we feel about it. No magical force decides how things are "supposed" to be.
Homosexuality seems counter-darwinian at first as does altruism. Research why both traits still occur!

To say that plants have a male/female relationship is simply being simply ignorant. Plants aren't gay, because they don't CHOOSE their mates. ANIMALS or WIND take pollen and if both plants are male, they will not get fertilized (unless it is a plant that has both genders, which do exist) Plants aren't sexual.
No, homosexuality doesn't result in offspring, but it still is natural.

The reason that HIV is spread, is because people have sex with more than one other person, thus spreading the disease. It doesn't matter whether you are gay or straight, you spread it anyway. Believe me, in Africa (where the most people are infected) BY FAR the biggest part of the infections in from a male to a female, mostly during rape. THAT is a real problem, not two man making LOVE or LOVING each other and wanting to marry.
