BTW the number of pieces of 8 is stored in the variable #305. So in ScummVM, you can open the console with ctrl+d and the type "scumm_vars[305] 1234" to get 1234 pieces of 8.
If you use the original .exe file, you can activate the debug mode by typing "monkeyspit" and then pressing ctrl+d. Then by pressing ctrl+e a dialogue appears that 1st asks the var number and then the value you want to set the var.
I don't remember the indexes for the value in save files for editing with a hex-editor.
