fabulous music - this was unique music - Anette is really just a "standard" female rock lead voice, Tarja's operatic training puts her miles above the rest - this band's music was initially built around those soaring vocals - they need to find a way of repairing the damage they have done to a sublime art-form - bring Tarja back? Too much water under the bridge maybe - but I never got to see them live (I am in New Zealand), so maybe that's why this is my wish, (& yes - she is very Beautiful).

I mean,I like Anette,but only because shes a new sound.And im sure if she was in the band in the first place ppl would like her just as much as Tarja. i do feel rather sorry for Anette because she isnt as good,and in one video i saw of her singing nemo,i was in shock of how bad it was.... shes bad live.Dark passion play is a nice album however. But Tarja is and will always be my favorite singer of all time.

Tried listening to it, but really couldn't get past the first two minutes without getting bored with it. It doesn't have the same beauty as it did with Tarja. I have to congratulate Anette for trying to sing it and doing an acceptable job, but the song doesn't have the power it used to have.
In fact, just in watching the End of an Era performance of Ghost Love Score to compare, it is TARJA who makes that song what it was. The music is great, but it's her VOICE that makes the song magical.
The song without her is empty, and Anette's performance is rather poor when compared to what Tarja delivers.

I've always felt similar. A lot of their older songs without a great vocalist would be just another filler on the album, but with Tarja's awesome performance it's a masterpiece. Her voice is so strong and powerful.. not many can sing like that.

I love the OLD Nightwish, but after seeing how badly NW mistreated Tarja, and the fact that they really aren't so good anymore, I'm pretty much a Tarja fan these days, yes.
Neither is Tuomas. The core of Nightwish was Tuomas, Tarja, and Emppu. Jukka certainly became a very key member, as well as Marco. But losing any of the core members means the band will NOT sound the same anymore, and that IS what happened.

The way I see it, Tuomas was infatuated with her but never had the courage to try to be more than just friends with her. If he did, it didn't work out.

Yes, they've played ghost love score in their conserts 2009. They've took ghost love score, romanticide and dead boy's poem back to the set and played them with Anette.
Personally,I'm still trying to get used to Annete's voice and to tell the truth the only new songs I like are "Amaranth" and "For the heart I once had"...And I CAN'T STAND listening to Annete singing old songs such as "Nemo" or "Sleeping sun"! I think that's the only thing that really puts me off of Tarja. I was really looking forward to her American tour, but she only toured four cities. I live nearest to Chicago, IL, but I was not able to go because I live all the way in Detroit, MI and it was during school. : (

Read her husband's response to fan's questions. Look over their videos, see if Tarja ever appeared not to care if she was performing well, or if she ever acted like a diva.

There are many theories, but it certainly wasn't over what the band wrote in their open letter. One must wonder what sort of people would try to humiliate and ruin the reputation of a former band member and fire her behind the stage immediately after their best performance ever.

I've been a die-hard fan since I first heard about them in Europe in 1999. It was a major change, but I love what Annete has done. If you really knew anything, you would know that they were changing their style back on the Century Child album. Anette fits the band's current direction better than Tarja. If you don't like it, quit pretending you're a fan and piss off.

I'm fan of Tarja and Nightwish, i mean i like both of them, Tarja and Anette too. they're great singers all the way. Tarja wasn't whole Nightwish, and Anette isn't whole Nightwish..Nightwish is a great band happened what happened ;)

I love the OLD Nightwish, but after seeing how badly NW mistreated Tarja, and the fact that they really aren't so good anymore, I'm pretty much a Tarja fan these days, yes.
I'm going to see her live next month.

Neither is Tuomas. The core of Nightwish was Tuomas, Tarja, and Emppu. Jukka certainly became a very key member, as well as Marco. But losing any of the core members means the band will NOT sound the same anymore, and that IS what happened.

The way I see it, Tuomas was infatuated with her but never had the courage to try to be more than just friends with her. If he did, it didn't work out.
In any case, it's sort of obvious that his attitude towards Tarja changed when she married Marcelo, and he was more than likely feeling highly upset and hurt over it.
It went downhill from there.

I remember when i heard first time from finnish radio channel that "Nightwish's vocalist Tarja Turunen is fired from nightwish" or something like that, i didn't want to believe my ears, but it was really sad but true..Anyway, we should be happy Nightwish is still here with Anette. It took me a while i used to Anette's voice and she's improved her voice a lot. For example, Ghost love score sounds really good with her voice. What do you think about Ghost love score with anette?

Yes, they've played ghost love score in their conserts 2009. They've took ghost love score, romanticide and dead boy's poem back to the set and played them with Anette.

Personally,I'm still trying to get used to Annete's voice and to tell the truth the only new songs I like are "Amaranth" and "For the heart I once had"...And I CAN'T STAND listening to Annete singing old songs such as "Nemo" or "Sleeping sun"! I miss Tarja very much, and not only her voice, but her whole style (appearance,clothes,smile)....Annete is a good singer, but not the one who can give the band what Tarja gave...OPERATIC METAL!

Tarja = Opera Singer
Anette = Pop Singer
Nightwish with Anette it is not Nightwish, it is something else that is not Epic Power Metal anymore.. You can call it Pop Power Metal may be xD but please, this is not Nightwish, change the band name if you put this pop singer on the microphone!

I somewhat agree with you.
Yes, Tarja is my favorite of the 2 singers they have had.
However, she frowned on touring the US, so they never did with her in the band.
Annette is a decent vocalist, and she'll actually tour where I live. :)
I can't really say one of my favorite bands isn't good anymore, because they have a new singer.

I think that's the only thing that really puts me off of Tarja. I was really looking forward to her American tour, but she only toured four cities. I live nearest to Chicago, IL, but I was not able to go because I live all the way in Detroit, MI and it was during school. : (
I hope that she'll tour more in the U.S. and Canada as much as she does Europe and Latin America.

Shedidn't "frown" on touring the US. She actually did tour on four cities. But artists can only perform where they are required. I mean, when a promoter is interested in having their act, also where there's been strong or steady sales, so in the end many times it's not the artist's choice where they'll be able to perform. And well, Tarja's sophisticate music is not something that attracts most of US youth, is it?

Ok, Tarja said 'classically trained singer'. I meant: If you study singing you at least exercise in big halls like theaters/ opera houses or perform at classical concerts/ competitions (I spent my childhood at the music conservatory). I don´t know many backgrounds about Nightwish, I suppose you do. My special topics are Toten Hosen and Ms Winehouse :)

Tarja did a few of those but she never realized it as a career. In stead she spent 9 years in metal than released a pop album. She is not a really good classical singer.

It seems a lot of new fans think they know everything about Nightwish from what they read in the open letter, and view themselves as experts on the band because of it. Only total idiots base their views on ONE letter without looking into the band's history and seeing their individual personalities.

Read her husband's response to fan's questions. Look over their videos, see if Tarja ever appeared not to care if she was performing well, or if she ever acted like a diva.
She's ALWAYS come across as a warm sincere person, onstage and off. She's never cancelled a concert, contrary to what is implied in the open letter.

There are many theories, but it certainly wasn't over what the band wrote in their open letter. One must wonder what sort of people would try to humiliate and ruin the reputation of a former band member and fire her behind the stage immediately after their best performance ever.
It was obviously an act of vengence and spite, the exact reasons are unclear however.

I think the discussion about which album is more popular is a little tricky,because when they recorded DPP they could invest in it A LOT of money.I mean they recorded at AbbeyRoadStudios!That allowed them to tour more countries,more publicity,etc,besides I think Annette´s style is more commercial.A classical voice isn´t always what teenagers or most of the people like listening.I´m not against Annette but I prefer Tarja.I don´t know who´s a better person or who´s more popular but I prefer old NW

its kind of how you take it, once sold about 300 000 copies and the DPP have sold 120 000 copies now. ofcourse music means, but the people nowadays prefer simple music, as we can see from amaranth its a very simple song and it become a huge hit. Tarjas opera like voice is very unic at metal business and thats why it helped so much to rise nightwish to the top.

im not shore from the sellings of once but im shore that its more than DPPS. It took a week for me to learn to play the nemo with piano. Tarjas opera voice was unic at the time when nightwish started but now inspired by nightwish many other bands have done the same. And i checked the sellings of DPP and its 120 000 copies by now. You cant seriously say that it wasnt tarja how made nightwish popular. Symphonic metal contains classical voice and instruments.

DPP sold x4 platinum. The only reason why Once could have had higher sales is because it's an older album.

Un, no, symphonic metal contains symphonic tracks recorded by an orchestra. And DPP has much more symphony in it than any other album by Nightwish. Tarja's classical voice is not unique in the metal industry because there are a lot of bands than employ classical singers.

There's alot of "artists" that sell even more than nightwish with DPP, it doesn't mean they are talented in anyway! Not to mention alot more money was invested in DPP than Once so your point is a total mystery to me!
In my opinion Once->DPP, i don't want to jump over the cliff just because thats what most people do!

Every band has a golden era. Many bands have had to survive through major changes, and many of them have had continued success. Nightwish looks to be one of those bands, especially since having Anette is allowing them to tour more and get more worldwide exposure. Would you rather they wrap it up and end it?

Wow...you seem to think that you're pretty smart about a band you've only known about for six months.
I've been a die-hard fan since I first heard about them in Europe in 1999. It was a major change, but I love what Annete has done. If you really knew anything, you would know that they were changing their style back on the Century Child album. Anette fits the band's current direction better than Tarja. If you don't like it, quit pretending you're a fan and piss off.
