Kato being a Trekkie in this is really fantastic, too, given that Mr. Sulu was Mr. Kato in Japan Gantz actually makes a lame joke about it in both the anime and the manga, I think, when he calls Kato Mister Kato. Although in the abridged version, Kato does have moments where he sounds like Kirk when he speaks, which is another fantastic part of the whole joke in this.

I watched a little of episode 1, and I didn't think that kato was bland... in fact, he's the only person that was actually a halfway decent person! Kurono is a pussy, and a coward. This is just my personal fan theory, but I think that certain functions like the stealth system and the motorcycle that shows up later in the manga are rewards that previous players have gotten for reaching 100 points. If those players later left the game by reaching 100 points again and choosing freedom, their weapons are left behind for future players to find.

So not everybody can use the stealth function, because it's tied to the radar device that only Nishi had.
