do you know the difference between bose cinemate gs vs cinamate when comparing sound quality? i baught the regular cinamate and liked it but returned it.
For those of you fortunate enough to have a headphone jack on your TV. Just hook up a good set up computer speakers to it. You can then control your the sound with you TV's remote. I have been using my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 ($80 on ebay or $250 at BestBuy) to my 5 yr old Samsung LCD and nothing else has come close to the THX sound sends out. Ever since I switched to a MacBook I have retired my PC Tower Beast and haven't had a use for the PC Speakers.

Coming to sony you have 3 HDMI inputs and a HDMI output too, and it plays the surround(5.1) also and not just 2.1. Its all with HDMI now-a-days! and lastly you've to spend only 199 for ct100
1. if its all about price...you probably shouldn't be out buying home theater equipment instead of paying your bills.
2. bose has dsp chips in the speakers to protect them from blowing or sounding bad at high volumes.
3. 321 has had hdmi since 2008 so yours is really old.
the soundbars and 2.1 systems all use the principles of psychoacoustics and nothing compares to bose as far as simulating surround sound. they nailed it with truespace. however, all other sony products rock. love my ps3!!!

I had the same Sony system. No comlaints about the sound and features. I sold it and am wanting a Bose cinamate series 2. Yes it only has 2 audio inputs but I only need the optical. I plan to connect it to the optical output on my Samsung plasma. That way when I switch inputs on the tv the sound will always come out of the bose with out me doing anything. Plus having a seperate left and right speaker I can place them farther apart giving more seperation than a soundbar will give me.

I would not buy either of the these units but I do like the Sony for the array of different inputs. I like the fact that the Sony has Optical and coaxial inputs. Still neither one of these are a good substitute for a dedicated surround sound system.
I've got the ht-150 and it's loud. The SW has really opened up after a few days of use. Connecting everything with HMDI and then to the tv is awesome. Great value for under $300

I want something like the 321 but i cant afford it. I need a system with small wireless speakers, a subwoofer, and a decent amount of inputs (like the 321). It need to fit in a small apartment that has a projector instead of a tv. There is no way I can afford the 321 and frankly i really dont care for bose. Is there anything like it that would work in my situation?

i don't know why people talk so much crap about bose, because when you pay for bose you're paying for quality and research which bose does. That is why they are expensive. Other speaker systems may be cheaper but they aren't any where close to bose. It's like putting a toyota against a mercedes benz. Ok, you cannot compare a sony to bose. Bose is a professional company at making audio speakers when sony makes all the shit we use for our daily lives. Sony isn't bad but compared to a bose, it ain't going to win. If you want to compare the bose, try harmon kardon speakers or some other company that only concentrates on audio systems. I am a Pilot and I can say BOSE makes the best pilot headphones..no audio company can compete with Bose when it comes to Noise Cancellation...Bose Noise cancellation is used in NASA rockets...
That Sony sucks to me. I tested it out. The Bose is better. The Sony does not get loud enough. I still would not get either one. You hate good surround sound if you're too lazy to run wires. The same lazy people bitch about not being able to lose weight. The only real soundbar I know that really works is the Yamaha YSP series, but they are real expensive.
The Bose are ridiculously expensive and shoddy for the price. So I can't see the point in the Bose system. But the sony just upgrades your TV's sound, which I'm sure it does, nice and easily. However they are both going to sound rather rubbish against HTheatre systems.
Obviously it's going to be horrible Bose quality, and boring sony quality. :)

Hey Mike and anyone else, I sold my Bose 3*2*1 system and went with the CT100 and love the HDMI over the RCA and came out $250 ahead. right now Walmart has the Sony CT100 online for $248.oo not bad. JazZz
the only bad thing about both systems you are comparing, is that both have small satelites or small woofers, both systems lack defining mids, i will admit that the average person will not notice because the did a decent job blending it in with the subwoofer but these really cant be compared to a set of floor standing speakers. and also both systems subwoofers really dont do what a subwoofer is supposed to do.. but thats just my opinion
bose's larger speakers, such as the 901's are a larger speaker, you'd probably get a better sound from them, but in this day an age, more and more people want big sound from a small, virtually invisible system that blends in with their decore. The 321's are good for what they offer, a simulated surround sound (not true surround) from a 2.1 speaker system.
For the majority of people, a larger system isnt really appropriate, it all depends on what you like. But you're right about what you said.

@T4ShowVideos What are you basing this on? Just because it's cheaper and has more connections than your old 321 doesn't make it better. Sony makes some decent things but speakers...forget it. I think you do a pretty good job with these little tech blogs but you should state the criteria upon which you base your opinion. Bose sound quality will shame that soundbar, they now make the 321 with HDMI since you made this vid in '09. Bose is way overpriced but worth the cash if you can swing it!
the "acoustimass" technically isn't even a subwoofer. It's three 5.5" drivers mounted in a bandpass enclosure. The drivers a made with paper and mounted in foam surrounds. It's made of the cheapest components and the 5.5" drivers are what every other company uses for midrange it lacks power. Also, having everything mounted on the sub is a disadvantage because the vibrations aren't good for the electronics. subs usualy hid in the corner, but this is tied to the tv. It's a weak sub anyway.
Both of these suck. Bose is horribly overpriced, why so expensive for paper cones? ehh and sony is pretty good in everything they make EXCEPT audio. They fail at audio.
(maaudiosubs) The 321 has highs and lows asshole, I can tell you never had your hands on a bose system before. You can adjust the highs and lows as well, the bass on this this is crazy and highs are very definitive. How od I know I just bought the damn thing three days ago. Shit sounds crazy yo. I would reconmend it to anyone not who is not trying to go crazy on speakers but want the same quality. By the way I am a mastering engineer in music. I have 3 hdmi's on mine.
I forgot to mention (in case anyone was interested) that the 321 Series III GS has HDMI and upconverts dvds and tv (passthrough) to 1080p. I currently have a Sony KDL-32L5000 which is 720p so I appreciate those features. When I get my Samsung UN55B7000 I'll be upgrading to Klipsch speakers, sub and a Onkyo receiver.
I have a Bose 321 Series III GS. I like it OK. I think it makes a nice starter HT. I like that it is EASY to set up and comes with everything you need. You can have it out of the box and set up in less then 20 minutes without even watching the instructional dvd or looking at the book. It sounds decent enough with regular tv, but I like it best when playing video games and watching action flicks because then you can really 'feel' it. I plan on upgrading later but for now it serves its purpose.
the 321 is way better. I own a series 1 model the gs which is the model with the gemstonespeakers. The bose is excellent the 5.1 surround isnt that noticable but it does work. The subwoofer is the real mccoy. I reccomend the 321 system with gemstone speakers
The source has to be connected to the Soundbar. If you connected directly into the TV, only its speakers would play the sound. If your laptop has a way to connect optical or HDMI, then it would work. I only know of connecting optical via my MBP.
If I bought this would I be able to hook my laptop up to the tv with audio coming thru the soundbar? Am I right in thinking the HDMI would pass the video thru the subwoofer into the tv, and the audio thru the soundbar? Any help would be appreciated, I have money to spend, and am getting pretty antsy. Lol.

the only bad thing about both systems you are comparing, is that both have small satelites or small woofers, both systems lack defining mids, i will admit that the average person will not notice because the did a decent job blending it in with the subwoofer but these really cant be compared to a set of floor standing speakers. and also both systems subwoofers really dont do what a subwoofer is supposed to do.. but thats just my opinion

bose's larger speakers, such as the 901's are a larger speaker, you'd probably get a better sound from them, but in this day an age, more and more people want big sound from a small, virtually invisible system that blends in with their decore. The 321's are good for what they offer, a simulated surround sound (not true surround) from a 2.1 speaker system.
For the majority of people, a larger system isnt really appropriate, it all depends on what you like. But you're right about what you said.

Sony CT100 allows for decoding HDMI audio which will allow for HD audio if your bluray player can decode HD audio with the player

@T4ShowVideos What are you basing this on? Just because it's cheaper and has more connections than your old 321 doesn't make it better. Sony makes some decent things but speakers...forget it. I think you do a pretty good job with these little tech blogs but you should state the criteria upon which you base your opinion. Bose sound quality will shame that soundbar, they now make the 321 with HDMI since you made this vid in '09. Bose is way overpriced but worth the cash if you can swing it!

the "acoustimass" technically isn't even a subwoofer. It's three 5.5" drivers mounted in a bandpass enclosure. The drivers a made with paper and mounted in foam surrounds. It's made of the cheapest components and the 5.5" drivers are what every other company uses for midrange it lacks power. Also, having everything mounted on the sub is a disadvantage because the vibrations aren't good for the electronics. subs usualy hid in the corner, but this is tied to the tv. It's a weak sub anyway.

You should also consider that the Bose 3-2-1 system also plays CDs and some play DVDs, the Sony system only has a soundbar/subwoofer.

(maaudiosubs) The 321 has highs and lows asshole, I can tell you never had your hands on a bose system before. You can adjust the highs and lows as well, the bass on this this is crazy and highs are very definitive. How od I know I just bought the damn thing three days ago. Shit sounds crazy yo. I would reconmend it to anyone not who is not trying to go crazy on speakers but want the same quality. By the way I am a mastering engineer in music. I have 3 hdmi's on mine.

I forgot to mention (in case anyone was interested) that the 321 Series III GS has HDMI and upconverts dvds and tv (passthrough) to 1080p. I currently have a Sony KDL-32L5000 which is 720p so I appreciate those features. When I get my Samsung UN55B7000 I'll be upgrading to Klipsch speakers, sub and a Onkyo receiver.

I have a Bose 321 Series III GS. I like it OK. I think it makes a nice starter HT. I like that it is EASY to set up and comes with everything you need. You can have it out of the box and set up in less then 20 minutes without even watching the instructional dvd or looking at the book. It sounds decent enough with regular tv, but I like it best when playing video games and watching action flicks because then you can really 'feel' it. I plan on upgrading later but for now it serves its purpose.

the 321 is way better. I own a series 1 model the gs which is the model with the gemstonespeakers. The bose is excellent the 5.1 surround isnt that noticable but it does work. The subwoofer is the real mccoy. I reccomend the 321 system with gemstone speakers

The source has to be connected to the Soundbar. If you connected directly into the TV, only its speakers would play the sound. If your laptop has a way to connect optical or HDMI, then it would work. I only know of connecting optical via my MBP.

Am I right in thinking the HDMI would pass the video thru the subwoofer into the tv, and the audio thru the soundbar?
