@ch33pskate yeah mate, I tried it at the time Core2Duo was a buzz and after some time of when the 1st xpac of WoW came out (Burning Crusade) :) I think you summed it up though.. not much attention being given to PlaneShift overall.
MMO's are not easy to develop and polish to a level of whoo-ing players. eg: Take a look @ SW:TOR... budget: circa $300M? + time: officially announced 2008, prolly began dev long before it.. contrast that to others not as "polished" :P :P
@johnzantey I know they aren't. Even the great OSS games like Battle for Wesnoth take forever to get right, but Planeshift was the great chance to show how the Open Source model could be great for games, and it falls flat. Especially after 5 years.
@ch33pskate I hear you brother.. Amen to what you said ;) It had a big chance to become something. I blame 2nd Life for taking the lime-light :P :P Albeit, it's a good pile of code for anyone *patient enough* wanting to understand MMO code :P
Battle for Wesnoth is brilliant. Simple yet complex. your review of it is good man :)
I would suggest Minions of Mirth to you - much better gameplay, beautiful and with amazing music. Combat is good and there is a lot to do. It can be a little difficult to pick up at first, but I'm sure once you adjust, you'll love it! And to top it off, you can play it offline as well.
There are so many F2P MMORPGs out there, that they all play very similar. I guess it is based on the players preference what theme he/she wants to Role-play in. For me personally, I find these to be very slow paced and mind numbing, that I would rather play something twitchy, like Xonotic/Nexuiz or something.
@MAT0R0 oooh! i didn't know of those! I will have to give those a look! And yes, there are quite a few F2P MMORPGs. The reason i went with this one was because it was open source.
@ch33pskate Yeah, but a heads up is that Nexuiz and Xonotic are made by the same devs. There were "complications" with Nexuiz, so the original devs decided to move onto Xonotic, their newest project. I wish to play Xonotic, but it is only for PC as of so far. I can't wait till it comes out for mac. I played Nexuiz on mac, and it is freakin sweet. It is very fast paced like Quake, yet it plays like Unreal Tournament with alternative fire weapons. Even the graphics are amazing for a open-source!
well at least it has variaty
