first heard this song in 1992 at "drop in the park" at magnuson park in seattle. not only was the show epic it was also free!! what a great era for music!!
This band has always made amazing music that has lasted the test of time. I can always go back and get lost in a song and think about what was going through their heads when they were creating this. Good times.
I play this song when i want to get out of a fucked up situation, and just drive to nowhere...as far away from societyy as i can....i always end up in the redwoods from the bay area.lol.....and it works for me. i thank ET for pearl jam
@edenkor u dont have to listen to it its not shoved into ur ear, it is shit i agree but just turn off the fuckin station, ps this is a underrated pj song sooooooooooo slickk!!
The song is about getting brief flashes of Intuition (Higher Consciousness) and longing to see the bigger picture (enabling him to spread the message to the rest of the Planet)
I finally found the movie 'Singles' for sale near where I work. I'll be buying it this weekend; because the soundtrack is so fantastic, not to mention the endless cameos in the film. And Cameron Crowe & Matt Dillon seem to be pretty damn good at what they do too, ha-ha! Its about time.
am i right in saying this was unreleased and is on none of pearl jams albums apart from gay arse greatest hits which im not buyin cos i have every album but not this song so im confused
@pantsface111 How is the greatets hits gay? It's one of the best albums I've ever purchased. and I'll still buy any of the old ones I don't own already, as well as the new ones. But when you say you "have every album", you mean you downloaded it illegaly. Ah, right. When the truth comes out it all makes sense.
@MartyMoves haha no... between me n my dad we have all the albums in some cases 2 of one album and also iv seen them live twice so dont go saying i aint a real fan its just fact it was a cheap shot of them to release new songs on a cd where all but 2 or 3 is it? i dont have n btw the greatest hits of a band is never the best its just which singles did best get ur own opinion of there best songs instead of buying the greatest hits
@pantsface111 Riiiight. Because I think it's a great album (and anyone who says it isn't clearly has an issue) that automatically makes it my favourites? Says the so-called fan, who thinks its a stupid album. You're nothing more than a hypocrite. how old are you, 12? Were you even born before 1990?
You just called a Pearl Jam album "gay", then go on to say that you're this big "fan". You're so full of shit man. Posers like you have no place in this real group of fans. Go kill yourself buddy.
@pantsface111 Oh, and by the way. In case you hadn't noticed, all those "gay" songs, are on all the albums that you *claim* to own. Yes, even on the ones you supposedly have 2 of. But here's some food for thought:
Suppose you can't afford to buy them (or even TWO, in your case. you big spender you). What then does a fan do, who wants to contribute to the band, but doesn't have a lot of cash. Gee, why not buy an AMAZING double-album!!
I bought 2 of them and gave one to a friend. You prick.
@MartyMoves you started an argument over an internet site we both like this band but slightly disagree with each other over the greatest hits album. mate whats wrong with you lol woman troubles? i dont even know what your trying to say know, are you better than me?
I don't seem why people are fighting. Shit shut up and toke up that's what I do when I hear this song. Nothing better than a nice blunt and Pearl Jam.
yes martin it might be my favorite as well. and dont worry you dont have to describe the genius that was early pearl jam. fans know exactly what you mean.
maybe my favorit PJ song. But there are so many to choose from! I have like 10 favorite songs. PJ isn't just music, it's something more, something I can't describe. PJ and Tool are gods, at least in opinion..
@ranmore30 It was on 2 albums man, granted one was a soundtrack, but nevertheless...damn youtubers& 7 thumbs up tsk..tsk...tsk... people are gettin awful retarded, but no for real I felt that way-in 1994
@32Rainking I thought that people would just know that i meant a proper studio album instead of a greatest hits collection or a movie soundtrack, i guess not...
@ranmore30 I knew you weren't counting soundtracks, but from what I understand it was written for the movie, and that soundtrack is very different than most, but still they had the insight to include it on a greatest hits album b/c it was such a great song. It came out for the Singles soundtrack, if they put it on a subsequent album it'd be like recycled music, gets it's just my opinion.
I'd rather that digital audio never came along and we would not have half of the shit music we have today... Play music and record it to tape, period. If you suck you suck, the tape doesn't lie. Bits and bytes do
@clariscools - As a recording musician, tape is a fucking, motherfucking, shithead, evil, demonic bitch to work with. Changing those spools, escpecially for a 24-track recorder, was instituted evil. Digital recording = Good. Digital Distribution= Bad
Thats fucking true! I cant actually believe that people listen to music where the autotuning is so fucking obvious it cant be ignored (kesha and much others)...
Meh I think music changed to something with status and money instead of emotion, expression and pure talent :(.
@articachicken To sell out or not to sell out. People want to live and have those nice houses. They want to look after friends and family and buy that car they once dreamt about.
Vedder and the Jam held out and still do but I would still understand and back them if they were to sell out.
I would also totally understand, But if pearl jam would sell out would though be different then if a crap artist would sell out.. I dont know exactly why. But what I admire in pearl jam also, is that they put the tickets under the price of 20$ against the will of Ticketmaster, because they want teenagers to be able to go to concerts to. While they could get a lot of money with higher prices
I really wouldn't know what I would do man. But Im atleast glad there's talented music around
@articachicken Maybe in the past, but i've never seen a PJ ticket for under £50 here. Infact the first time i saw them i had to pay over £100 on ebay since they sold out so quick. Worth it though
