  • i have never windsurfed, and have no idea how to. but i would LOVE to learn. im drunk right now and remembered my uncle is going to let me use his wind surf board next summer (i live in minnesota not far from the twin cities) so i decided to check out some tutorials. i am a fluent skateboarder and snowboarder, and have always had a passion to move to hawaii and learn how to surf, and then i wanted to windsurf. does anyone have any word of advice for me as a beginner whos wants to start surfing?!

  • id like to insert my fin in her box

  • Nice, not bad video.

  • I find that all the technical details put off first timers most of the time. They often say, “this sport is too complicated for me, I just want to have fun.”

We now find that getting them up and going first is better. Once they fall in love, the technical bits come naturally because they really want to know them at this stage when they more serious about it.

  • Anyone know a rough price for a new sail and board together??

  • @Rafael94b Its a control, to see if the sail is properly fixed, and for your muscle memory....

  • I happen to have this old, Russian ice-breaker which is twice bigger than the one in the clip, and get this, it's called ''Mustang'' :D

  • the narrator makes it sound crap!

  • that was the worst way for a beginner first of all he has to do the secure position first then static turn and then the sailing position then tacking

  • i learned nothing

  • @Rafael94b Its called the helicopter and it's just a trick :p

  • just try and try thats the way you get good you cant get good from watching a video.

  • @Rafael94b <- to catch balance in all positions, to learn how turn the board in desired direction on startup. Useful exercise for begginers, in mi opinion. Cheers

  • Nice! Its good all these videos about learning how to windsurf. Recently I checked out a website that's helping me a little learn faster. Wish it was also in Spanish. The url was something like learnhowtowindsurf

  • the narrator sounds like a fucking robot

  • @ba77ar90 That's so people can understand them better.

  • What board is that? I want to buy it

  • @SthealthRaider ich find starboards nich so gut würds mir gut überlegen eins zu kaufen

  • Auf dieses Video antworten...

  • @felixspakke Was? Ich weiss die name nicht van das surfplan. Sorry ich spreche keine deutsch

  • @SthealthRaider I just wanted to say, I don´t think so well about StarBoards

  • I like that sail curve in 2:00...

  • Good tutorial, very clear and concise.

  • Good tutorial, very clear and concise.

  • @Rafael94b For practicing purposes.

  • Amazing video!! Great surfer!!

Thanks very much! Helped me a lot!!!

  • @Rafael94b to practice tacking and jibing

  • great video!

looks so easy on that superwide Starboard!

  • just picked up a used windsurfboard complete rig sail and all, (sorry windsurfers, i don't know you terminology yet) for a 100 bucks, can't wait to get out there and learn

  • I just don't understand... if the wind is blowing towards the shore.. how do you get out in the first place. or if its blowing out from the shore how do you get in?? i just dont understand.

  • @21180 In sailing you do a zig-zag to sail in the direction the wind is coming from. I think it would be similar in windsurfing...

  • @21180 The sail is shaped like an airplane wing and creates an aerodynamic force to move you upwind. As the video says, you cannot sail directly into the wind but as close as 45 degrees off the wind. If your destination is directly upwind, you can tack back and forth to approach it and finally come in at a 45 degree angle.

  • looks like such a fun sport! im into sailing and its almost the same only a "bigger board" lol but i wanna givet hat a try looks like alot of fun!

  • where can i get a board like that and thanks help heaps

  • I have a Bic Nova 170. Not many people windsurf where i am at. Taught myself. The Nova 170 is an excellent beginner board and sails great in light wind. Very stable board

  • im SO OLDSKOOL!! i didnt even know they had 2 part masts!!!!!!!! 0______0...and STRAPS???

ok sure! i saw some younger people who had 2 straps, but not 4..... but the 2 part mast shocks me...guess its my age :P how wimpier can it get.

  • I have taught windsurfing for 7 years! No wonder so many people think windsurfing is hard with a video making them learn bad habits. Ignore this video and go out and get a good lesson from an established centre!

  • Thank you soooo much for uploading this fantastic video.

It is sooo informative and the explanations are very clearly structured to be followed easy.

The only thing thats bad xD: I WANNA HAVE THIS BOARD

My board is way smaller and therefore less stable in lower wind conditions....I´ll have to buy a new one

    Thank you so much

  • @unsereoma How many litres is your board?

  • @MrrMatts I have an F2 Board that has 112 liters....very fast but instable

and now I bought a Fanatic Viper that has ~170 liters. I did not have the chance to try it jet but I will soon xD

I suppose that it´l be very stable

  • @unsereoma Okay, your F2 board is something similar to what I'm learning on. It took me almost a whole season to sail it. Yeah with a viper you won't get the same problems I had. XD

    Have fun. =)

  • im not sure why i watched this... i've been windsurfung for 3 years now and im getting a board and sail next year ^^ at least then ill be able 2 use footstraps :) tho im not sure if they're gonna help lol

  • Very cool video, thanks. I was windsurfing today and need to brush up my techniques.

  • @Rafael94b

To feel the board and practice balance

  • @METSAVEND9 Almost impossible to do on the board I'm currently learning on a 115L F2 Ride.

  • name of the song?

  • there are footstraps?! what?! I HAD TO LEARN WITHOUT THE FOOT STRAPS. xD

  • I found the hardest part of Windsurfing was getting used to the wind Direction! definitely takes some getting used to : D

  • true! i had my windsurfing lesson on weekend and really its hard to understand the wind... but getting more closer to it....

  • malakies!!

  • lol "insert the M A S T - B.A.S.E !" XDDD

  • did it earlier now goin to try more at curacao freshen my brain with this Thank you!!

  • I can windsurf til... 1 week xD I have learned it on Rhodes (greece). greece is in the top three of the hardest places this world to windsurf. it lokks easyer like it is. it`s hard.

    the top 3:

    1: hawaii

    2: malediven (I think)

    3: Rhodes

sry but I can`t speak very good english because I´m german,.

  • Looks helpful. Going to try it this weekend.

  • yea it is hard... I was on my 1st lesson yesterday and I couldn't feel my knees and fingers... next lesson tommorow!!!

    btw great vid!!

  • @xdiablofoolx

Really depends on ur level of windsurfing. I personally by sails with a lot of "mesh"

in it, it looks like netting in the sail. Good brands are Naish and Sailworks if u want more durable gear.

  • I think the instructions are ,good but the computer voiceover and the music makes me wanna sleep

  • Comment removed

  • I'm seriously considering to take up windsurfing. But I want to know how to properly take care of it. Can someone tell me how to take care of it because if I end up enjoying it and I purchase a good one I want it to last for a long time because they are expensive. Also what are good brands to buy from that are not overly expensive?

  • the dude thats talking sounds like a robot!!! :)

  • @RomeoandJulietTV because he is ... its a comuter vioce :D HeHE

  • Today its my 2nd day and I started driving around but I cant change the direction ^^

  • i've been windsurfing in the summer for 2 years (i begin my third in 4 weeks) and my teacher didn't realy explain everything. this helped clear up some things. i'm thinking of getting a windsurf (I <3 starboard but probs wont get a starboard cos they're expensive). and soon i'm gonna want 2 try kiteboarding 'cos it looks rly fun lol. i'm 13, so what board should i get? and what sail?

  • Excelente !!!

  • im going to mexico in april vaca learning how to windsurff for tht reason

  • god a lot of people say a lot of shit, this video should be used by an instructor to aid learning. and whoever said it was a top end rig just fuck off. twat. learn to windsurf, its in the name

  • great job

  • hey i have been doing surfing for 2 years and i am in bic techno team in Greece..Surfing just needs tactic and muscles!

  • How much would the rig in the video cost like $1,500 ? It looks like a high end

  • hi all. Im 28 years old and I never surfed in my life but I want to start

    1- is it too late?

2- Can I surf just with all info at youtube ?

3- What should be the dimensions of the board and sail ( Im 180cm tall ( 5'11" ) and I have ocean with lots of windsurfers with so nice wind and I want a fast surf so which one should I choose???

I ll be glad to get answers.

    Thanks~

  • @peri8215 Never too late to start!

  • thanks

  • First, windsurf or surf, if you wont learn windsurfing, first you need a 205 lt board like the video, and a 5.0 sail... if you wont more information send me a mail....

  • thanks alot all for all the info.

  • Great great Great i compete windsurf and it is a good video to Learn 5 stars!!!

  • Iam getting my windsurf tommorow!!!!!!!!!

  • great video

  • Hi tomorrow im starting windsurfing and im 11years old )

  • windsurfing

  • I'm 14 and a start last year... but i don't know it very well... yet.

  • i have a board from the 80's xd

    my dad used it too!

on the same age as my dad I started too!

    XD

  • And that was when I was 20. The sail ripped not long after. I never did it again.

I am going to purchase a new one and I am now 37. Is it like riding a bike? Will I forget what I have learned?

  • I used to windsurf on an old O'Brian sailboard. IT was a single piece mast from the 80's, and the boom was too small for the sail.

It took me 3 summers with no lessons to learn how to use it mildly proficently.

  • awesome VIDEO. ....Not as easy as it looks

  • WOW-is there a special school you can go to, to learn how to speak like that.

P.S. Dont put the rubber band over your mast extension......I nearly fainted, and the bruise was there for weeks.

  • lol

  • wow, I was so excited to begin with this, but it seems like its not as easy as just buy the stuff and try some by yourself?

especially not for me who doesnt know anything about regular sailing and wind stuff.... xD

  • best vid is "beginner to winner" 3 hours of the best advice and very detailed. i bought it but its torrent-able too. I used it to teach myself.

Windsurfings a 'kin great way of getting your kicks. catch ya on the blue.

  • that's a terrible way to check wind direction

  • when you want to turn catch with your one hand the left side and with the other the right and made tac

  • I am goin to start today

  • i hope in a club or something...cuz there are a lot of things u got to learn!!

  • i bought one last week and within an hour was up and going no problem

only thing i am having difficulty with is going against the wind

  • your not supposed to go against the wind o.o

  • you just bought a windsurfing board and you don't even know how to windsurf!? Dude there is more than just moving foward.. You need to learn how to turn, quick tack, jibe, and of course steer downwind or upwind!

  • you beat upwind, I think the closest you can get is about 45*

  • you can get a little tighter with the wind depending on the shape of the board.

  • yeah i was just at my cabin

and bought one from me neighbor for 50 bucks

i know its not great or new

    but i got goin good

    could turn go with wind

and now i cant carve my way against the wind

im not great at all not sayin i am

    still just starting

  • ah dont worry about it, just learn slowly. You'll get it eventually

  • naah I love the board, it's beautiful

yeah I know that's not what it's about, but still, I love it!

  • I learned how to windsurf in South America more than 20 years ago. Looks like not much has changed. It's much easier to assemble your board than this video makes it look. Sailing is exhilarating once you get used to it. Balance is everything. You have to keep trying. It's not that hard in calm waters, but watch out in the ocean.

  • this looks hard!

  • I start today with and old bord. It's like ski right?

  • oh my god, i'm going to start today with windsurfing....i'm so nervous...is it easy to learn??

  • it's not that hard

  • I sold my windsurfboard. I am going to have to buy another one for the summer. I think I might be able to rent one, though.

  • why did you say that? no one cares.

  • omfg this dude rocks!!!!

  • Come on. Do you teach a kid how to ride a bike. I learned without any lessons a good while ago may I add

  • Yeh i learned myself aswell.

Read a book on triming etc and then just get out on the water.

  • Well it sounds to me like you are a bit of a know it all. I am surprised you even needed a book!

  • thats unfair xd ive got a board of 75 litres and its way way way harder than that ;)) want a board like that to but than i wont go that fast :xx

  • Great Video!! I want to learn!!

  • I really, really, really want to learn how to windsurf but i don't know how to get started i would prefer to learn without lessons because of the money. Does anyone have any suggestions. Like on how to start, and how to choose a board. P.S. i live on cape cod

You need to try before you know WS is your thing. I bet you can find a local WS club that will help you. maybe you can work out a trade vs cash?

this video is great if you want Ato Z. you need less. start with preparing your body. any thing like a rowing machine and balance. I have taught this since mid 1980s. enjoy this dieing sport.

    DVS

  • do you have windsurfing equipment? if you do, all you need is someone who knows how to windsurf..

  • I just learn it with my own cheap surfset..

it's a bit bigger board then usual and i have a short seal.. you just need to try it sometime! i got mine for 20,-! (gonna buy a new one for 125,- at a used website..

I didn't had any lessons and i learn it quit quickly,, but then again, my boyfriend is a really good surfer..

  • im in the same boat as you, and i live on cape cod also. theres a surf shop on main street in buzzards bay that specializes in windsurfing and they offer lessons for a decent price. i plan on taking a few this summer. oh the name of the store is sailworld.

  • Nice Video!! This video is now also featured on my website! It's a Blog dedicated to windsurfing videos, check out my profile for more info

  • the wishbone is too high....

  • Cool. Thanks, I made a windsurf video, but have not tried it yet... I live on Margarita island, Venezuela, a great windsurfing spot.

  • Watch : freestyle training sorobon

    Or : 7002858

    Or : Amado Vrieswijk

you can learn something from that !!

  • well! WAtch : Amado vrieswijk!

  • i took lessons in Hurgada, I very good and cool spot!

  • where was this filmed?

  • I windsurf.. and i actully teach it.. I wouldnt recomend this video to anyone who wants to learn windsurfing.. theres better ways to learn. and did dont explain what things are.. it also only shows you how to rig one board.. boards are differant.

  • I totally agree (I'm also an instructor). I really can't see a beginner learning anything from this, I literally laughed out loud when he said to go straight into the front strap and then the back foot was way off the centre line.

I guess we have to keep in mind it is several years old now, times have changed.

  • I learned surfing in cien fuegos (cuba) but for me it was very easy in only 1 hour i can do all the basics skils. I think i'll buy a board for my self, but it's realy expensive. do someone know any good surf sites?

  • you are awsome

  • yes I know a great place. it's in ............cienfuegos,cuba.......... sorry for the bad joke, I'm from there and I couldn't avoid it

I'm planning to buy one too. I love all kind of sport in water, so.........

    good luck.

  • since u strap ur feet in, what happens if u capsize? u cant roll over like in a kayak.

  • well, its just a board, not a boat, and the boards stay afloat on their own whether they are up or down, or any direction. if you fall over with the feet straps, and you cant get the sail in a position to pull you back up, you just pull your feet out of the straps and tip the board right side up. i've never had feet straps, though, so i'm not an expert. actually, i'm not an expert on windsurfing alltogether, but thats just the basic idea.

  • avoid sand from entering the fin slot, lol it gets me every time!

  • i learned surfing in Paros(Greek island) in 4 days but in a really differant way. i am confused!!! i love surfing anyway!..

  • It's a good vid,but it looks more easy then it really is.I learned in Germany in 5 days, just the basics of course, but windsurfing is great, everyone should try!

  • it is very explanatory but the reality is different .good anyway

  • is the feet position duck footed by default?

  • i started today but the weather wasnt very good around 10m/s wind and waves

  • its very hard the first day :D

  • yooo!tell me about it!yesterday my first day at windsurfing!boy!tough as hell!

  • it might seem easy i want try........

  • It's very easy to surf, i learned in one week

  • this is harder then it looks!!! haha, but the video is great, i wont give up on this :)

  • how much is it to buy the board, sail, and other stuf. wut is the average price cuz i wana buy one they look cewl

  • i just got all the stuff today for $20 from a garage sale

you just need to look arround and you will find one

  • :o what a steal! I got mine for new for around 1000 dollars

  • he probally buyed a old crappy one xD

  • don't buy to crappy! I borrowed one that was made of glasfiber! that stuff hurts! :P

  • avoid sand from entering the fin slot?

  • Thanx! That really got me in the spirit

  • oh oh, cleavage at 1:15

  • hahahah this video is da biggest shit i eve seen in ma lifeeee i surf for 6 years and i neve seen a funny video lik dat

  • Sorry, but this video is mostly crap... You won't surf at the beginning when you put you foot in the footstrap! You do this when you're (don't know the english word for it...) driving really fast, not before...

  • Im a RyA Windsurfing instructer lol and this Video is really dated .... we never tell people to turn using the up haul rope lol thats crazy as in strong winds it will flip round and hit you in the face.. controlled turns arms straight leaning the rig to the back of the board..

  • lol at how easy they make carve gybes and waterstarts sound

  • @haggiss Yeah getting catapulted a lot these days trying to learn them nerve wrecking to see these "Novices" carry them out hands down.

  • Shit instructions...

  • Well post a better one then buddy.

  • For anyone interested in learning windsurfing, this video is very poor for instructional quality.

  • yeah, usually if you are learning you shouldn't have your own equipment already

  • snore, they couldn't have a more..... boring voiceover.

    good info tho

  • thx for the help, i just got a new board board and it wiggles allot when i try to ride

  • well,, you cant fall on a board like that:S it's like pulling up a rig on a 12m long boat xD you can't fall!

  • wwah are you chatting about

  • Thanks man very helpful

  • thanks it's very usefull

  • ı want this vıdeo's turkish vercion..

  • thx man you made it alot more eyser for me

  • Very helpful, thanks so much!

  • thank you :)

  • usefull

  • thanks for the info!

  • thanks man

  • thanks man, we expect more... :)

  • Thanks this has given me a lot of Info.
