as far as im aware the brim was raised on the left (originaly by a simple pin and improvised for the job) as far back as the new model army, it was to do with when on the march so the rifle (or as most originaly had pikes) could be carried without knocking your hat off.
mate, diggman4123 is right. the slouch hat was originally won with the right hand side turned up. this was for mounted units which carried their rifles in the right hand. this was to prevent damage to the hat and so as not to interfere with the rifle during battle. When mounted units became redundant, the slouch was flipped to the left hand side and is now only worn as a ceremonial symbol as all shooting and marksmanship of any sort is now done wearing a 'bush hat'.
its not awwsie.. u say it like a retard its aussie.. and i dont think the slouch is on the left for the reason u told.. its cause in the adf we hold everything in our left hand
Traditionally it was flipped up on the left hand side but that quickly was rejected in combat because, as the guy in the video said, it interferred with right handed shooters. Today it is only worn with the brim flipped on the left when worn as dress uniform. It's design means that you can just twist it around to wear the flipped brim on either side. When my dad was in the army, wore it with the flipped brim on his right side...
No need to swear at me. How long have you been in the army for? My dad was in the army for 21 years and left in 1993. He told me that you wore the flipped brim on what ever side you carried your rifle. Like I said, it was traditionaly worn on the left had side and worn that way when it was worn with your dress uniform.
if u want it on the right, wear it the other derection:)
