Hmmm, QM2 wins on many counts: Yes the RMS Titanic might be the most famous ship but the QM2 is the largest Ocean/Atlantic Liner. She is also the fastest and probably the most luxurious too. But the most outstanding differences are..... QM2 has enough lifeboats for all on board, she can turn in her own length (in case of icebergs) she has a very sophisticated computerised system for depth and weather. Both are great ships, each in it's own time. Titanic was a steam ship ( runing on charcoal) Modern & elegant at it's time. QM2, Is a diesel engine ship, Modern & elegant for IT'S time. However in my opinion Titanic ( being over 100 years older than QM2) Is the better of the 2.Considering they didn't have the technology we have now a days!

A real comparison would be between the Olympic Class ships and Cunard Line's RMS Aquitania of 1914. The Aquitania was designed and built to compete w/the White Star ships. Queen Mary is 3-times larger, far better accomodations plus she is far faster at 30 knots and a 21st Century ocean liner. There is no comparison.

@ncarolinaftw1933 you know, ive been on both QM 1 & 2, and their "grand" staircases dont even make a challenge to Titanic's elegant, gilded, rails of the brass wooden pair of steps that lead up, to a sight of a beautiful skylight dome and down to a hall of 1st class boutique'. But just because it sank doesn't make it any better. Most of you have never been on QM2(I have) and just because the movie is great and sad you think its the best ocean liner in the world. Titanic and her sisters, Olympic & Britannic, were the last large liners powered by triple expansion reciprocating steam engines. The centre shaft was a turbine but powered from exhaust steam from the other engines. As such these ships were no match for the turbine liners. The steam Queens were better. The latest motor ships (Diesel Electric) are not true liners but cruise ships. Marine Engineer.

Bizarre comparison. Queen Mary 2 is 3-generations newer than Titanic and in a completely different league. A more accurate comparison would be between White Star's RMS Olympic/Titanic and Cunard Line's RMS Aquitania of 1914. Aquitania had similar dimensions to Olympic/Titanic. All were approx. 45,000 ton 882-900 foot long pre-World War 1 ocean liners. BTW, Titanic would have been the Worlds largest ship for a few months until the larger more luxurious German Imperator Class arrived in 1913.

Technically Carnival owns the Titanic because the Titanic was built as a white Star Liner (YEAH!) then following the disaster in the 30's it was purchased by Cunard, more recently Cunard joined Carnival PLC. Queen Mary 2 though larger, is definetly not better, though it does look elegant, it's sheer superstructure does not provoke the same elegant finess of the titanics smaller superstructure, further the straighter angles of the Titanics design seem to make it more stream lined.
