All banks were required to take the money in order to make the situation seem widespread rather than identify the poor management by a few.

@fzqlcs , I agree that Paulson was insistent and did pressure the some of the banks to take the bailout but to say they were 'forced' is not accurate. Nonetheless, They did not make much effort to resist taking the money. They also had no problem with paying out extravagant bonuses with this 'unwanted' money that was forced on them.

The thing I hate about all these criticisms is not which political economic philosophy rules in Washington, but that the people who offer the critique, in this case Sowell, offer no explanation on how to solve our economic problems. Also, each President have economist in their cabinets who have differences about their economic philosophy so who is right?

A civilian policing force. I was offered $1800 a month to teach young, supposedly,"underprivileged" kid's how to be civil servants through Military style doctrine. Where is that money coming from? I rejected purely on the premise that the last this country need's is a bunch of adolescent's running thinking they have authority behind what their age allows. That, and I wouldn't be able to stand kid's with a sense of pride for the Collectivism, and not with themselves as strong individuals.
