Actually the F-16 and Kfir werent Leased for the movie, bucause it was filmed in Israel. Nevertheless the US Navy leased several Kfir C2 and renamed F-21A . The US Navy used to use Kfirs as adversary aircraft in the Squadron VF-43 until the F-16N was entering in service.

Those are certainly F-16s. If I am not mistaken the F-2A had it's first flight in 1995, ten years after this film was made. Plus there are subtle differences between the two. Still, F-16s, F-4s, P-51s, or Sopwith Camals, give the Israelis planes and they will shoot down bad gays with them. Oohrah.

Kfir C2 is an Israeli copy of the Mirage with typical Israeli Improvements (electronics mostly) C2 is intended primarily for air to air.
Kfir C7 is an Israeli copy of the Mirage III with the same improvements as the C2, it is more of a multirole aircraft with 2 additional weapon hardpoints and a larger bomb rack. IIRC Iron Eagle featured the C2s, Into the Sun featured the C7s.

If they hadn't thrown in the slicked-up F-16A models for the dogfighting scenes, it would've looked a little more consistent. I guess a bombed-out F-16B doesn't move as nimbly though.
The photography crew twice had to suspend shooting as the F-16s were recalled for active-duty missions during the filming of the movie. They may SAY they didn't want any recognition, but the IAF had just gotten those jets and were eager to show them off.
So I take it that all the flight sequences were shot in Israel - I have a hard time imagining Israel allowing it's front line fighters being taken too far away from their bases...
Yeah, but it's not like they used that many planes, so I'm sure that they had plenty to defend themselves with. Notice that you don't see any planes exploding in this video; wooden models were used for that, according to the Wikipedia site on the movie.

Israels air force is disproportionally large- they are currently ranked 4th in the world after USA, China and Russia. They also have the most fighter jets in the world per capita.......ie.......600 jets for 6 million people = 100 jets per million people. By comparison USA has only 10 jets per million people.(3000 jets for 300M people) Israel has more jet fighters than Canada, Australia and Great Britain combined!! And half of these are F-16's.....they just ordered another 140 from the states!

The Kfir is actually based on the Mirage 5. The Nesher is based on the Mirage 3 which the IAF ordered from France but then never received b/c of an embargo.
As for a Mig 31, that would be the Mig. 31 Foxhound, which is russian an doesn't appear in the movie, unless your thinking of the Mig. 31 Firefox from the movie Clint Eastwood did, if so, your watching the wrong movie lol. (Mig. 31 were high speed\ high altitude intercepters with big engines an 2 vertical tails)
Mirage 2000 (Mir 2000) does not appear in the movie, those are Dassault Mirage III's, the Mirage 2000 doesn't have forward canards (little wings) behind the cockpit.

F-16B an F-16C 's were the primary aircraft used by the Americans in the movie, but you do see what looks like a old F9F-5 Panther, or a F2H-3 Banshee, both now used as trainners (where doug is driving an it lands and the guy waves at him, begining of the movie)
F-4E Phantom , not fanturm (lawl?) which doesn't even appear in the movie.

No the budget was not high at all. The Israelis used the aerial filming as real world training ie they were flying anyway. The movie did have to pay for the filming and all the other setup but I assure you real Israeli aircraft were used not RC Planes.
Actually i read in a model aircraft magazine back when i was 9, that the planes seen are not real, because it would have been too costly- but that they were actually flying Hi- end model RC jets flown by professionals

Kfir C2 is an Israeli copy of the Mirage with typical Israeli Improvements (electronics mostly) C2 is intended primarily for air to air.
Kfir C7 is an Israeli copy of the Mirage III with the same improvements as the C2, it is more of a multirole aircraft with 2 additional weapon hardpoints and a larger bomb rack. IIRC Iron Eagle featured the C2s, Into the Sun featured the C7s.

@sonykroket The French reneged on a deal to supply the Mirage III to Israeli's so they sent Mossad to steal the plans.
Once they had the plans they made the upgrades mainly because the Mirage III used French weapons and having stolen the plans I doubt France would be to willing to sell them weapons for them.

By 1968, Dassault had finished production of the 50 Mirage 5Js paid for by Israel, but an arms embargo imposed upon Israel by the French government in 1967 prevented deliveries from taking place. The Israelis replied by producing an unlicensed copy of the Mirage 5, the Nesher, with technical specifications for both the airframe and the engine obtained by Israeli spies.

F-2s were designed from F-16s, they were created in the late 1990s by a japanese aerospace engineering corporation, you will notice that with F-2s they sport a Sea blue paint scheme, that is becuase of japans placement around water, they have ceremonial colors but they never have a desert paint scheme

it was the same for what little NEW footage they shot for Iron Eagle II, they had just gotten their F-16C Block 30 Baraks. (it's also one of the few times you'll see the israeli F-4E Kurnass 2000 on film)

If they hadn't thrown in the slicked-up F-16A models for the dogfighting scenes, it would've looked a little more consistent. I guess a bombed-out F-16B doesn't move as nimbly though.
The photography crew twice had to suspend shooting as the F-16s were recalled for active-duty missions during the filming of the movie. They may SAY they didn't want any recognition, but the IAF had just gotten those jets and were eager to show them off.

Yeah, but it's not like they used that many planes, so I'm sure that they had plenty to defend themselves with. Notice that you don't see any planes exploding in this video; wooden models were used for that, according to the Wikipedia site on the movie.

Israels air force is disproportionally large- they are currently ranked 4th in the world after USA, China and Russia. They also have the most fighter jets in the world per capita.......ie.......600 jets for 6 million people = 100 jets per million people. By comparison USA has only 10 jets per million people.(3000 jets for 300M people) Israel has more jet fighters than Canada, Australia and Great Britain combined!! And half of these are F-16's.....they just ordered another 140 from the states!

The Kfir is actually based on the Mirage 5. The Nesher is based on the Mirage 3 which the IAF ordered from France but then never received b/c of an embargo.

As for a Mig 31, that would be the Mig. 31 Foxhound, which is russian an doesn't appear in the movie, unless your thinking of the Mig. 31 Firefox from the movie Clint Eastwood did, if so, your watching the wrong movie lol. (Mig. 31 were high speed\ high altitude intercepters with big engines an 2 vertical tails)

Mirage 2000 (Mir 2000) does not appear in the movie, those are Dassault Mirage III's, the Mirage 2000 doesn't have forward canards (little wings) behind the cockpit.
as for Migs , there are none in this clip or in the moive. (lawl x2?)

xosquad374 , its great you are thinking about joining the air force, but you need to learn how to spell the right tags for the aircraft as well as spot them.
F-16B an F-16C 's were the primary aircraft used by the Americans in the movie, but you do see what looks like a old F9F-5 Panther, or a F2H-3 Banshee, both now used as trainners (where doug is driving an it lands and the guy waves at him, begining of the movie)
F-4E Phantom , not fanturm (lawl?) which doesn't even appear in the movie.

Amazing-thats really neat-just wondering how the US markings got put on the planes.i guess the israelis allowed them to "temporary tattoo" the USAF markings on then?how did you find these things out by the way- cool facts on the movie. also-the cockpits in the first movie did look very fake- gotta love the Target logo being the radar/target + the pictues of the enemy planes instead of normal radar blips-now for the second movie were the cocpits real?they looked more real than the first movie...

No the budget was not high at all. The Israelis used the aerial filming as real world training ie they were flying anyway. The movie did have to pay for the filming and all the other setup but I assure you real Israeli aircraft were used not RC Planes.

Actually i read in a model aircraft magazine back when i was 9, that the planes seen are not real, because it would have been too costly- but that they were actually flying Hi- end model RC jets flown by professionals

Why would the United States attack our peaceful neighbor to the north preemptively? That makes no sense at all. Secondly, the simulated enemy aircraft aren't Kfirs. The Kfir is an Israeli modification of the D'assualt Mirage, which these are clearly not. These aircraft are the swiss made Saab J-35 Drakken.

I have no idea where this is comming from, but the United States invaded Canada years ago. Contrary to what is reported, Kennedy and Deifenbaker were good friends who enjoyed each others company immensely. Israel must, and does have the best Air force in the world- in order to defend herself from her many hostile arab neighbors.
Also, most of the technologies put into today's modern fighting jets are created in joint development between the US and Israel.
