  • I have that first whistle downloaded as a ringtone for my cell phone I use it sometimes its amazing the weird looks I get from people whem my cellphone rings I have this one and NKP765 than there is a ATSF 6 chime or a Southern RR 3 chime I have about 8 I found but the whistle from 745 was my origional one I still use regularly I am not sure where or when they recorded 745s whistle but it has a Hell of a sound ringing on my phone especilly if I am around someone when it rings LOL

  • Work on the editing, it's not really believable. Otherwise, nice shot.

  • Like this video a lot, Thanks for showing. Happy Easter to you all! ***** for you.

  • hehe M

  • One thing I'd like to know. Is it true tat 745 has 2 different whistles?

  • The truth is 745 has many whistles. Most locomotives in the old days had a place for a second whistle. The locomotive has a sp5 chime that stays on it all the time. Each engineer puts his own whistle on before they run. You can always tell who's running the locomotive by the sound of there whistle.

  • far far away he is

  • gotta love the sound of a steam whistle

  • j'adore le hurlement de la locomotive ! crazy !!!

  • I love this steam locomotive alot I was able to ride on it last year from Kansas City south although regretably we broke down on rich mountain in arkansas . I look foward to rideing again .thanks lasta for a fine restoration..on hell of a whistle!!!

  • that muthafucka gots one commanding whistle for a steamer!

  • Next to having your little one(s) call you "Daddy", I doubt that there is any sound that warms the heart of a true American man as much as the exhaust bark and whistle call of North American mainline steam. Thanks for sharing!

  • the way we got around the "ditch lights" we have our Classification lights operational, i dont know if the regulations are different in your state but we run on the main line with just our head lamp classification lights

  • "Ditch" lights are common on euro steam. GCRR did a nice job putting them on Mike 4960. Looks ok.

  • NO ditch light's? We can't run class 1 railroads with out them safety first.

There always some give and take.

  • According to the FRA's website, steam locomotives can operate without them at any speed. Diesels can too, but the front of the unit can't occupy crossings at more than 20 mph.

  • @trainmaxx so is that highpitch whistle sometimes used on there off a Chineese steam engine like I was told I recognise this SP whistle but when we arrived in Kansas city a few years ago with a private railcar for our fatefull out run south with this engne they saluted us when backed into the track at KC Union Station by blowing both whistles this pretty SP whistle and a very highpitch whistle which I must admit wasnt that pretty on this engine it belongs on a Chineese SY or soemthing

  • NICE video! (A steam loco with modern ditch lights takes a bit of getting used to, though!). ;) Love that brass-railed observation at the end!

  • Where and when was this video shot? S.P. always had killer whistles. Nathan 4-chime?

  • This was the last day of the break in run 2005. I shot this at a railroad crossing in Laplace Louisiana

  • Great looking train, needs to lose the ditch lights, killer whistle!

  • There's nothing like the banshee wail of a steam train passing by...wonderful
