Now I need to work on growing my food and canning!! Look forward to learning more from your videos!!
Woooow! $9.00 for a shirt! good deal!!! AND just so you know, part of the reason our country is going to shit is because of the crazy people who think everything that is cheap and made in china is gold! Forget about quality.
@karlyrshelton Tell me honetly that you have NEVER bought anything made in china or any other country( gasoline?). The people who run this country have ran the manufacturers out and have ushered in the cheap foreign stuff. NAFTA,CAFTA and free trade agreements have screwed the farmers, the manufacturers and the American workers. I guess that if we as Americans boycotted all foreign goods, then we would all be better off. Btw, the shirt was of good quality.
I've been storing up canned goods but about 1/2 of them became rotten before the expiration date. I don't have AC or heat so are there any recommendations on how I can have a more temperature control environment for my food or to prevent it from rotting early? Thanks.
@stormspottter I would suggest getting a 55 or 60 gallon plastic feed barrel and burying it in the ground and put your food in it (makershift cellar). Where I'm at in Florida the ground stays a constant 70F to 72F year round. Your area might be cooler. I also saw a cold spring that water trickled out of in north Georgia that people would put eggs, butter and milk in to "refrigerate". I hope that was some help.
@stormspottter buy seeds and keep them dry; you can grow food indoors in containers if need be or dig up a patch in your yard; you could trade fresh produce with others for a variety if need be
The bandana *is* important. Tourniquet, pot-holder, gas mask, head cover, cleaning rag, bag, kneepad, etc. I'd rather carry 1 bandana than 7+ items I might need in an emergency, or for mundane use. Also- you don't have to stock up on cleaners if you use basic baking soda, vinegar and extra virgin olive oil... all of which you'd need for food preparation. Prep? Sure. But SIMPLIFY.

@homesteadprepper Good Point! I just read on Yahoo, that we are going to give Bangladeash billions in aid for the next 5 years. WTH....,!! Has it ever occured to the current administration that we, (vets&citizens) could keep the taxmoney in our pocket and raise our quality of our life!
@noufri7 That was actually a borrowed 30/30 from a friend of my dad's. We had gone shooting that day and I used it to make the vid. I have no idea what he paid for it. Sorry.
I am of the firm opinion that preppers are carrying the economy. We are buying months if not years of everything. If 3% of us are preppers and we are buying 10 times normal consumption....
Keep on prepping!
AND, IMHO, with inflation starting to ramp up. The stuff you buy now will be saving you money. Buy EVERYTHING that has an unlimited shelf life.
At this point, if you have the room. It just seems stupid to not buy it now. Do you trust the government to balance the budget? I don't!
I did the exact same thing. Went out and bought all underclothing for hubby and I and have it all packed up. Should we have to leave with our bags and the clothes on our backs we'll be ok. I also stocked up on dark colored sweat pants and sweat shirts, they are warm and light. Great tips
Hygiene and sanitation are very important in a disaster situation, where medical help could be limited to nonexistent. Being able to keep a minor wound clean and bandaged could prevent a major problem. Having the items necessary to keep food preparations surfaces clean will also go a long way toward keeping a person and family healthy.
Haha. Is it a war? Or a disaster? Invest in good health insurance. You will get sick one day. As for the apocalypse happening? Probably not. & in "shtf" or whatever, I wouldn't suggest getting in running gun battles. In shootouts, people get shot. "Running & Gunning" Haha. See if that still sounds cool when you got a chunk of led in your gut. Cops in body armor & APCs will probably be out looking to shoot people like they did during Katrina. Guess what that rifle makes you? A target.
@Friedstuffsable so what you are saying is if the world financial system crashes and people are hungry to the point of coming to take what you have, you can just hold your good health insurance policy up and you will be okeydokey!!! Haha to that!!
@thiscreepingmalaise No, firearms are good to have for protection. Going out "Runnin' & gunnin' " Is fuckin' stupid. Are you going to walk around in public with a rifle? Let it be known, you won't be the only one out there who is armed. & you really won't want a bullet wound when all the hospitals are closed.
@Friedstuffsable I can tell by your use of expletives that you are the authority of running and gunning. Do yourself a favor and stop by Fort Bragg or Camp Lejuene N.C.and express your Opinion to the fine men and women of our armed forces.
@homesteadprepper Okay. You mean the guys who will be shooting you when you go trompin' around with your rifle in public during a disaster? That doesn't even apply to what I was saying. I think its dumb to go out running around in public with a visible long gun in public during a disaster, & you want me to go tell the Army about it? They would agree with me because I doubt they want to shoot American citizens.
@Friedstuffsable I guess that your definition of "running and gunning is f@#$%^g stupid" is different from my definition of running and gunning. Our military has done run and gun all over the world during disasters (you can tell them that its dumb). I think that if we had an event (such as EMP)where LE and the Military were not able to respond then, the people who want to protect their families against looters and raiders will pull out their 3030 Winchesters and start tcb'n if necessary.
@homesteadprepper When I hear it I think of exactly what it sounds like. Running around with a gun looking for trouble. Getting shot I imagine is unpleasant. You aren't the only person in the country with a rifle. If that is your plan I suggest getting some ceramic plate body armor. Worry about yourself & your family. I know I wouldn't go make sure people didn't steal stuff. & I'm sorry if profanity offends you. Just so happens they use a lot of it at NS Newport.
@Friedstuffsable I am not an idiot. I am talking about owning a gun to protect what I was smart enough to store for an emergency. I am not going out walking the streets with my gun.
@Friedstuffsable This video is definetly not for you. You should be watching videos about how when there is a without rule of law situation, the flower of humanity and your health insurance policy will rise up and protect you and your family from gun battles that will be otherwise only gravitating to stupid people who have rifles and are targets. Thanks for watching.
Winchester 30-30...best gun ever! But seriously I would call a lot of these stuff SHTF prepping, cause then you could say ever time I'm going to Wal-Mart I'm prepping for SHTF...But, when you get to 2:18 to 2:25, thats SHTF stuff!!!!!
Good ideas. The Dawn could be used for cleaning practically anything in a pinch even as a bath soap. And it's concentrated, a little goes a long way. If times are really bad, even things we think and not the best quality today will be way better than nothing!
I am new to prepping but I have noticed that in all my reading and you tube watching the few if any have included "feminine" products or birth control. Not a situation I want to find myself in. Pretty sure the guys wouldn't think of it. I like that you are reminding people of the stuff people need beyond defense and food.
@ajammes1 If you look around online, you'll find ideas such as how to make your own feminine napkins (plastic & layers of flannel) and tampons (baby socks) or buying alternatives that are washable. The down side is if you don't have enough water due to drought, you'd end up with nasty rags. Also on As A Mom Prepper's Pantry, we've discussed stocking on toiletries too.
The original blue-colored Dawn dishwashing liquid is the only Dawn I will buy now (and stockpile). The original Dawn is an excellent degreaser and is used for cleaning oil-drenched animals that have been harmed by oil spills. I have found that a drop of the original Dawn dishwashing liquid will cut through grease in a pan or pot.
very good. may I suggest investing in the sunday paper and couponing? I haven't paid ANYTHING for dish soap, condiments, toothpaste, deoderant, toothbrushes, or pain relievers in years. I pay about .25 for shampoo and conditioner (usually garnier fructis or panteen) And I am able stock up on ALOT when I find a good coupon matchup.
@homesteadprepper its pretty easy once you get into it, especially with coupon blogs and match up sites. You can find out exactly where to use what coupon to get maximum savings. frugality is always important. P.S.- I clicked on your ads, i find that is an easy way to help other youtube preppers out and it doesn't cost me anything and only takes a few seconds.
Walmart will save you next to nothing. That's not a good buy on trash bags I get them 19 bags for under$ 6.00(glad forceflex.) or 30 for under $8.00 and i buy the big bags-30 gl I think. I got them at one of those new Dollar market grocery stores other that i go the Piggly-wiggly (which was the very first supermarket ever). I 'm sorry but walmart's high prices isn't the end of the world or even that new ..i'd be happy if they just went away. What i don't make or grow i can find else where.
Nice vid. Yep, we've been stocking up on common items for over two years. We have to know the natural alternatives....soap wort and yucca roots are natural soap alternatives. Stinging nettle infusion (long brew tea 8hrs) will give you all the vits and minerals you need in one cup per day (based on rich soil). Hemp nettle can be used for weaving clothes and bags. Dogbane can be used for basket weaving. Common Mullein is another great "weed" with many uses!
Another nonglamorous item that is often overlooked is handkerchiefs. Think about how hard if not impossible getting paper products will be?? Think about no AC, no tissues....yer gonna needs lots of hankies! Stock up on bandanas and such, cut old sheets into handkerchief sizes, etc.
My impression-- "We've got ours-- and I'd rather kill my neighbor than share" LOL!!
"Preparation for failure is a sign of poor personal adaptation skills: survival is a function of an integral approach to today and the future; not clinging to past failures but to the prospect of continued spiritual growth."
And if you have children, buy underwear, socks, jackets and jeans (other clothes also) a size or two or three, or even four sizes larger especially when they are on clearence.
1 suggestion. Just save your shopping lists for 2 months and figure out how much of a certain item you are using and stock accordingly. also take an evening and go thru the cupboards and med. cabinets etc and write down what is there and what you actually use and what you are just storing. Don't be afraid of overstocking. you can use it for trade later if need be. vitamins, minerals, should be part of the stock also.
@mostlymichaelcanada There are so many items that we will need if the SHTF happens, that no one preson could think of everything. Thanks for the tip, I will put that on my list.
Ya... you want to go crazy? Have a chunk of food stuck in your teeth with no floss.. Good advice, when commodities started shooting up (cotton) I asked my wife to stock up on the socks, undies, etc. When those wear out, not good! (I think you should have grabbed that bra and say "wonk wonk" or "hoot hoot" or something, come on, man.. :-] )
Not boring at all things that need to be stocked up. Just as important as food for long term survival. Maybe not as important for temporary crisis survival. So prepare for what you are planning for.
Its so funny your wife let you show her bras :) Good video! Most people have prob already thought of this but the Dollar Tree is amazing for preps of hygiene. Everythings a dollar :)
You do need a bandanna. In fact, you need several. They're great to have. You can soak it in cool water and put it around your neck when your in the garden to keep you cool, or for a sling for your arm, etc. We LOVE Suave clarifying shampoo. We think it IS the good stuff. Yep...pencils don't dry up like a pen. I don't think any part of this video was boring.
@katzcradul My wife had heard that Suave was some good stuff. We are going to give it a try and maybe will will give out the Head and Shoulders to our family members instead. Thanks for the tips and comments because they are always appreciated!

Excellent video and excellent ideas. This stuff is going to be expensive if we can get it at all. Thanks.

@wgnwheel1 Great advice! And you are so right about the vitamins and minerals. Thanks.

Don't forget straws...useful if someone is ill and cannot drink from a cup. A simple prep that makes a bad situation a lot better.... A .99 fix.
mostlymichaelcanada 10 months ago
@mostlymichaelcanada There are so many items that we will need if the SHTF happens, that no one preson could think of everything. Thanks for the tip, I will put that on my list.

@homesteadprepper Agreed! Thanks for an awesome video. :)

Ya... you want to go crazy? Have a chunk of food stuck in your teeth with no floss.. Good advice, when commodities started shooting up (cotton) I asked my wife to stock up on the socks, undies, etc. When those wear out, not good! (I think you should have grabbed that bra and say "wonk wonk" or "hoot hoot" or something, come on, man.. :-] )

Not boring at all things that need to be stocked up. Just as important as food for long term survival. Maybe not as important for temporary crisis survival. So prepare for what you are planning for.

@violetwsmommy The Dollar Tree is very under estimated in the prepper community. Thanks for bringing it up.

I don't think any part of this video was boring.
katzcradul 10 months ago
@katzcradul My wife had heard that Suave was some good stuff. We are going to give it a try and maybe will will give out the Head and Shoulders to our family members instead. Thanks for the tips and comments because they are always appreciated!
