@Capscottmitchell Exactly what I have said. Names change as Knowlege grows. Before 1948 there was no Pakistan, Israel, SaudiArabia and others. Just because someone called some bit of land some name in the past has no bearing on what that land is called today.What was correct in 1500s may not be correct today. Further, Mercator in 1538 did not know the total area of what he called "America".You said it yourself in the quote..."for what is now called South America". S.America is the Continent.

@Capscottmitchell Well, thanks for that; but no,I am only 65. I was in Marines for 20years starting in '67. That means S.E.Asia and , in my situation Afganistan in late 70s. Those are the only "wars". I have also been in some actions (police & human aid during conflicts) in S.America and in S.&C. Africa both for the military and private employers.
