  • Well, great - so according to this video and comments below AND research on line - apparently almost everything you eat is going to contribute on some level to gaut. Unless you drink water and unleavened bread! This sucks!!!

  • this video is inaccurate, see a doctor or nutritionist for proper advice

  • Actually, fructose, as found in fruit sugar, increases your uric acid levels. Unfortunately, sugar (half fructose half glucose) is found in pretty much all foods these days. It's practically the same thing as high fructose corn syrup, but high fructose corn syrup has slightly more fructose. Cut the sugar.

  • stop with that shit, smoke ganja

  • drink hot water 8 times a day,,,,,hot water,,,,,

  • I recently had a gout attack, all I know was I had organ meat about 2-4 days ago. Im taking Indocid for medical treatment, I really wanna know exactly what food to eat and to avoid. I love food. This is like the 4th or 5th attack the last 3 years and its a funny feeling.

  • I have no idea what she's talking about because lots of different nuts are high in purines. Some veggies are also high in purines.

If you have gout, you should not eat any animal products meat or dairy. You could eat foods that are either low or high in purines in moderation but then you will never be rid of gout 100%.

That's what my research has shown me, and i put my research into practice and my gout is getting better.

I see asparagus and eggs in the background which are high in purines.

  • when they say meats, is that red meats or all meats including chicken n turkey?

  • Basically, these foods are high in purines, which break down into uric acid. If your body is unable to get rid of the uric acid, you may end up with Gout. If so, cut back on alcohol and other high purine foods (particularly beer) and add black cherry juice to your diet. Works for me!

  • if this foods are full of uric acid what we can eat !!!!

  • I have really suffered for the past seven years off and on with gout. In my toes, my arms and recently in my knee caps. Its come to a point where im scared to eat anything. my doctor told me to avoid beer, red meat, dairy products, dried beans, shell fish of any kind, and anything with white flour. not much to choose from huh.

  • @songwriterme: Iplaced a naturopathic approach on my channel - I will leave it posted for a few days.

  • This clip is poorly researched and not that helpful, as it is sorely lacking in specifics and details. Coffee alcohol and meat?

Organ meats are bad. Livers, kidneys, etc.

Chicken is not. Shellfish meats are bad, pork is not.

Most beers are bad (high uric acid content)...wine is not so bad.

Tho you obviously mean well, this vid comes across as an academic excercise by someone who does not sufffer from gout and has no idea how painful it can be,

    See how easy that is?

  • @spwb2k are you sure chicken and pork do not cause gout? I've read otherwise on many gout sites and on the american journal of medicine also. I've recently been diagnosed with gout and i'm extremely worried about it all. If I can eat chicken then i'd cope by restructuring my diet by cutting red meats out, but i'm really struggling with a diet that doesn't allow me to have poutry, meat or fish so would love some advice

  • @spwb2k please. :)

  • @FrankRocko - FR - i've had the Gout since 92 and my older bro had it worse and ended up w/2 kidney transplants. The thing to look out for are foods high in the amino acid Purine which is major source of uric acid. We gouters cant process that into piss as efficiently as we should so it collects in our joints as painful crystals. too much uric acid = Gout Attack!!

As far as I know Chicken is OK so is pork. Beer is a big no-no sadly.

Make sure youre on Allopurinol regardless.

    Good Luck!!

  • @spwb2k Really sorry to hear about your bro, is he ok? I'm only in my mid twenties so I know that's quite young to get gout. Does that mean i'm also likely to have my kidneys degenerate to the extent where I need a transplant? Also i've read on many gout forums that many people criticise Allopurinol because of it's side effects. If i didn't get on it immediately and tried controlling it with diet alone is it likely to cause me long term damage? Thanks alot for your time by the way.

  • @FrankRocko Rocko my bro had kidney disease of which the gout was an early symptom. He's alive and well today but it was a real challenge for him growing up.

I never had side fx to Allop and been taking them for years. Colchicine is another matter. It makes the pain from attacks go away FAST but it also gives you the trots for a day or so. To me the trade off is worth is coz attacks hurt so much.

    Hang in there.

Drink more wine and less beer. Cut down things that are high in purine.

  • @spwb2k: There is a naturopathic approach on my channel, it will remain posted for a few days. . Be careful with allopathic Gout medication because they cause kidney failure.

  • please help im scared no joke im taking whey protein does it cause gout please help me god bless.

  • @pescadores12: If you do not have Gout than you should be fine as long as you do not over consume. Also while taking in whey protein you must protect your liver by adding milk thistle to your regimen, protect your intestines by taking lactobacillus and cinnamon and protect your kidney by drinking sufficient water for your weight.

  • also..even though these are considered high in purine, studies have shown low-fat diary products decrease the risk of gout. I would also point out that gout does not just affect the feet and legs...

  • Very poor info, ehowhealth needs to get someone who knows what they are talking about and redo it. If you are going to talk low/high purine fine, but stop the misinformation about gout. This is nearly criminal is how bad it is. First, studies have shown no increace in uric acid levels and enifical affectes from tea and coffee. Becuase of the anti-inflamatory benfits, Salmon is a good eat for gout. Not all purine rich foods have increased risk for gout such as peas, beans, mushrooms, spinach..

  • This isn't wholly true, some vegetables and oily fish are high in uric acid.
