Because the Honor System got changed before TBC was released and you was able to buy Warlord Gear with Honor and it was not anymore required to reach Rank 14.

Also this was a special Event on Retail before BC was released. The Legion attacked the Major Cities with Core Hounds and Demons and Krull random appeared at the Cities and raped everything.

The real cata event will occur upon its release. Deathwing will fly through the sky in certain parts of Azeroth. Its suppose to to simulate the moment he arose and started the cataclysm. He breathes fire breath as he flys by, and if you get killed by it you get an achievement.
